2017–18 UCI Track Cycling World Cup
The 2017–18 UCI Track Cycling World Cup (also known as the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup for sponsorship reasons) was a multi-race tournament over a track cycling season. It was the 26th series of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup organised by the UCI. The series was run from 3 November 2017 to 21 January 2018 and consisted of five rounds. Series On 11 May 2017 the UCI revealed the location and dates of the world cup meetings that took place in 2017. Four rounds took place in Pruszków, Poland, Manchester, Great Britain, Milton, Canada and Santiago, Chile. On 27 June 2017 the UCI expanded the World Cup to five events by adding Minsk, Belarus to the schedule for a round to take place in 2018. The UCI Track Cycling World Cup (formerly known as the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics) is a multi race tournament held over a track cycling season - usually between October and February. Each series is divided into several rounds, each held in a different country. Format The UCI Track Cycling World Cup is a key event within the Track Cycling calendar, with only the World Championships and the Olympic Games attracting more World Ranking points. The series is open to national teams and registered trade teams who compete over a number of track cycling disciplines. The overall classification is decided on a points system with riders or teams amassing points in each discipline competed during each round of the series. The rider or team that has the greatest number of points in each discipline wears a white jersey in that discipline in the following round to denote their status as leader. UEC European Track Championships
The European Track Cycling Championships are a set of elite level competition events held annually for the various disciplines and distances in track cycling, exclusively for European cyclists, and regulated by the European Cycling Union (UEC). They were first held in their current format in 2010, when elite level cyclists competed for the first time following an overhaul of European track cycling. The UEC agreed with the governing bodies of six other major European sports from 2018 to integrate its four Olympic-class events, including track cycling, into the new European Championships event on a quadrennial basis. Beginning with 2018, every fourth edition of the competition will form part of the multi-sport event. Lewis Oliva
Lewis Oliva (born 23 August 1992) is a Welsh racing cyclist from Monmouthshire, Wales, who has ridden on the track for the Welsh Cycling backed professional track team since September 2016. Prior to this he was part of the Great Britain cycling team for eight years as a sprint athlete. In addition to his five British titles, Lewis is the current British keirin champion after successfully defending his title on 26/01/2018. He was successful in winning various international accolades, culminating in five world cup medals and multiple European and world championship honours. Oliva has also represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games at Delhi 2010, Glasgow, 2014 and Gold Coast 2018.
