2017–18 Rhode Island Rams Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Rhode Island Rams basketball team represented the University of Rhode Island during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Rams, led by sixth-year head coach Dan Hurley, played their home games at the Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. They finished the season 26–8, 15–3 in A-10 play to finish win the A-10 regular season championship. They defeated VCU and Saint Joseph's to advance to the championship game of the A-10 tournament where they lost to Davidson. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they defeated Oklahoma in the first round before losing in the second round to Duke. Dan Hurley
Daniel S. Hurley (born January 16, 1973) is an American basketball coach who currently coaches the University of Connecticut men's basketball team. Hurley was named head coach of the Huskies on March 22, 2018, after two years at Wagner College and six years at the University of Rhode Island. Hurley turned down an aggressive long-term offer from Rhode Island in order to lead UConn. Prior to Wagner, Hurley was head coach of Saint Benedict's Preparatory School, where he is credited with building the New Jersey school into one of the top high school basketball programs in America. Hurley played five years of college basketball, including a redshirt year, at Seton Hall. During his first three seasons, his head coach was P. J. Carlesimo. Hassan Martin (born November 12, 1995) is an American professional basketball player for Crvena zvezda of the Adriatic League and the EuroLeague. College career Martin averaged 6.3 points per game as a freshman at Rhode Island and increased his scoring rate to 11.4 points per game as a sophomore. As a junior, Martin posted 12.0 points per game. As a senior, Martin averaged 13.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. He was a big part of the first Rams team to reach the NCAA Tournament since 1999. He was twice named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year.
