2017–18 Iowa State Cyclones Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball team represented Iowa State University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cyclones were coached by Steve Prohm, who was in his third season at Iowa State. They played their home games at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa as members of the Big 12 Conference. They finished the season 13–18, 4–14 in Big 12 play to finish in last place. They lost in the first round of the Big 12 tournament to Texas. Previous season The Cyclones finished the 2016–17 season 24–11, 12–6 in Big 12 play to finish in a three-way tie for second place. They defeated Oklahoma State, TCU, and West Virginia to win the Big 12 Conference tournament. As a result, they earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 5 seed. Steve Prohm
Steven Marshall Prohm (born July 12, 1974) is an American basketball coach who is in his second tenure as the head coach for Murray State men's basketball. Previously, he was the head coach at Iowa State University, a position he had held from 2015 to 2021. Prohm served in the same capacity at Murray State University from 2011 to 2015. Early life A native of Vienna, Virginia, Prohm's family later moved to Dalton, Georgia, where Prohm attended high school at Northwest Whitfield High School in Tunnel Hill, Georgia and lettered in basketball for three years, graduating in 1992. He started college at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta where he played NCAA Division III basketball. Prohm made it less than halfway through his first season as a player when he left the team to follow his passion for coaching. 2017 Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2017 Phillips 66 Big 12 men's basketball tournament was a postseason men's basketball tournament for the Big 12 Conference. It was played from March 8 to 11, in Kansas City, Missouri at the Sprint Center. Iowa State received the conference's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA tournament with an 80–74 win over West Virginia in the finals. Seeding The Tournament consisted of a 10 team single-elimination tournament with the top 6 seeds receiving a bye. Teams have been seeded by record within the conference, with a tiebreaker system used to seed teams with identical conference records. Lindell Shamar Wigginton (born March 28, 1998) is a Canadian professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), on a two-way contract with the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G League. Deonte DeAngelo Burton (born January 31, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for the Stockton Kings of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Marquette Golden Eagles and the Iowa State Cyclones. Early life and high school career Deonte was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Charles Burton and the late Barbara Malone. Matthew William Thomas (born August 4, 1994) is an American professional basketball player for Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague. He played college basketball for the Iowa State Cyclones before starting his professional career in Europe, then moving to the NBA. Nazareth Jersey Mitrou-Long is a Greek-Canadian professional basketball player for Olimpia Milano of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) and the EuroLeague.
