2017–18 California Golden Bears Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 California Golden Bears men's basketball team represented the University of California, Berkeley in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was Wyking Jones first year as head coach at California. The Golden Bears played their home games at Haas Pavilion as members of the Pac-12 Conference. They finished the season 8–24, 2–16 in Pac-12 play to finish in last place. They lost in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament to Stanford. Previous season The Golden Bears finished the season 21–13, 10–8 in the conference. During the season, they were invited and participated in the Pearl Harbor Basketball Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii. California defeated Princeton but lost to Seton Hall to earn 2nd place. Wyking Jones
Wyking L. Jones (born January 8, 1973) is an American basketball coach, former college and professional player, basketball broadcasting analyst, and actor who was most recently the head coach of the California Golden Bears men's basketball program, and is now an assistant on the men’s team at the University of Washington. Biography Early life A native of Inglewood, California, Jones attended St. Bernard High School where he played basketball and was recruited by the likes of Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA and UC Santa Barbara, but ultimately decided to attend Loyola Marymount, where he was a ball boy in elementary school. Collegiate career Jones attended Loyola Marymount from 1991-95 under head coach John Olive. 2017 National Invitation Tournament
The 2017 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I Teams that were not selected to participate in the 2017 NCAA tournament. The annual tournament was played on campus sites in the first three rounds (the host team being the team with the higher seeding), with the semifinals and championship game being held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The tournament began on Tuesday, March 14 and ended on Thursday, March 30. The NIT Selection Show aired Sunday March 12 on ESPNU. Experimental rules In February 2017, the NCAA approved a number of experimental rule changes for use in this tournament: * Team fouls were reset to zero at the end of every 10 minute segment of each half (officially at 9:59).
