2017–18 Azerbaijan First Division
The 2017–18 Azerbaijan First Division is the second-level of football in Azerbaijan. Turan Tovuz were the defending champions. Teams Sabail was promoted from the 2016–17 season to Azerbaijan Premier League, while Shuvalan relegated to the First Division. On 25 September 2017, it was announced that Bine, Khazar Baku, and Sabah will participate in the First Division. Shamkir, Shahdag, Sharurspor, Energetik, Bakılı, Ravan Baku and Göyazan didn't participate in this season. Azerbaijan First Division
The Azerbaijan First Division ( az, Azərbaycan Birinci Divizionu) is the second highest professional division in Azerbaijani professional football (soccer), football. The division is run by Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, AFFA. No teams are promoted to Azerbaijan Premier League, Premier Division. History Due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, all Azerbaijan clubs of the former Soviet Top League, Soviet Premier Division and Soviet First League, Soviet First Division conformed a single Azerbaijan Premier League, which meant that the new second tier of Azerbaijan football would remain regionalized. For the first two seasons three regional groups conformed the second tier, until in 1994 the single table in use today began to be used. Competition format The First Division currently consists of 14 teams. All teams play each other two times. Energetik FK
Energetik FK is an Azerbaijani football club based in Mingachevir. One of the oldest and popular clubs in Azerbaijan. For a moment it participates at Azerbaijan First Division. History The club was established in 1966 and took part in Soviet Second League and Azerbaijan Premier League under the next names like ''Textilshchik'' (1966–70), ''Avtomobilist'' (1980–87), ''Kur'' (1990–93), ''Kur-Nur'' (1993–98). MOIK Baku
MOIK Baku is an Azerbaijani football club, based in Baku. MOIK was originally built around the same concept of military sports club as CSKA Moscow, CSKA Sofia. History The club was established under name OIK ( az, Ordu İdman Klubu; en, Sports Club of Army) in 1961 as sport society of Azerbaijani Armed Forces and was funded by USSR Ministry of Defense until 1990 and Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense since 1993. It has never participated at any Soviet football league, just one time has entered Soviet Cup and has been eliminated in preliminary round, but 4 times has won Azerbaijan USSR League and 8 times Azerbaijan USSR Cup. Imishli (city)
Imishli ( az, İmişli) is a city and the capital of the Imishli District of Azerbaijan. History During the Tsardom of Russia, Qaradonlu belonged to the Javad Khan administration. In 1906, the first School of Qaradonlu region was established, with many living-buildings, caravanserais, mills and shops in the area. In August 1930, Qaradonlu was organized in Mil-Mugan as a region. As early as the October Revolution, land-reclamation and irrigation work were made based on the intense irrigated plant-growing. In 1933, Qaradonlu Machine-Tractor Plant was built in the Qaradonlu historical region. As a result of the construction of the railway between Ələt and Yerevan, people moved from the center of the region to suburbs of the railway stations. ASK Arena ( az, ASK Arena), formerly Inter Arena and Shafa Stadium is an all-seater football stadium located in Baku . The stadium was built on the site of Termist stadium in 2001 and has a capacity of 8,125 spectators. The stadium surrounded by practice fields, administration buildings and four-star hotel. Agsu ( az, Ağsu) is a city in and capital of the Agsu District of Azerbaijan. History Abbasgulu Bakikhanov noted that Nadir Shah issued an order for resettlement of the inhabitants of Shamakhi to new laid down city on the bank of Agsu river, in 1735. At present, the name of Agsu city (which is the centre of Agsu district) is shown as New Shamakhi in some sources. It is related with resettlement of the inhabitants of Shamakhi to Agsu city. Ağsu FK ( az, Ağsu Futbol Klubu, ) is an Azerbaijani football club based in Agsu. The club is currently participating in the Azerbaijan First Division. History The club was established in 2012 and immediately joined Azerbaijan First Division. On 18 May 2013, the club sealed promotion to Azerbaijan Premier League after winning first division. However, due to the decision of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan about licensing, the club did not get promoted to the Premier league.
