Liberia
Liberia (), officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country on the West African coast. It is bordered by Sierra Leone to Liberia–Sierra Leone border, its northwest, Guinea to its north, Ivory Coast to its east, and the Atlantic Ocean to its south and southwest. Salome Karwah
Salomé Karwah ( – 21 February 2017) was a Liberian nurse who was named co- Person of the Year by ''Time magazine'' in 2014 for her efforts to combat the West African Ebola virus epidemic. She appeared on the cover of ''Time'' in December 2014 with other health care workers and colleagues working to end the epidemic. Karwah survived ebola herself, before returning to work with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) to help other patients afflicted with the disease. The actions of Karwah and other health care professionals are believed to have saved lives of thousands. However, two years later, Karwah died from complications of childbirth; her widower suggested that this might have been due to the widespread, mistaken belief that ebola survivors can still transmit the virus. Ruth Perry
Ruth Sando Fahnbulleh Perry (16 July 1939 – 8 January 2017) was a Liberian politician. She served as the interim Chairman of the Council of State of Liberia from 3 September 1996 until 2 August 1997, following the First Liberian Civil War. After eleven international peace attempts between 1990 and 1995 to end the civil war in Liberia, the attempts appeared to succeed. The interim Council of State consisted of a civilian chairman, as well as members of warring factions: Charles Taylor, United Liberation Movement of Liberia for Democracy-K leader Alhaji Kromah, Liberia Peace Council leader George Boley, and two other civilians. Perry was known for being the first female president of Liberia and of contemporary Africa as a whole. No candidate won a majority in the first round of the presidential vote, so the top two finishers — CDC standard-bearer Amb. Liberia Restoration Party
The Liberia Restoration Party (LRP) is a political party in Liberia. History The LRP was certified by the National Elections Commission on June 26, 2017. It is an off-shoot of Liberia Restoration to Christian Heritage, an organization centered around making Liberia into a Christian state. MacDella Cooper was the first standard bearer of the party, and the first presidential candidate. She was the only female presidential candidate in the 2017 election. Her running mate was William R. Slocum. Cooper supported Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate George Weah in the subsequent run-off election. The LRP ran 37 candidates in the 2017 House of Representatives election, 11 of them being women. The party won no seats in the legislature. The LRP won no seats in the 2020 Senate election.
