2017 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2017 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as Ford World Men's Curling Championship 2017 for sponsorship reasons) was a curling event that was held from April 1 to 9 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton, Alberta. Canada won the title for the 36th time overall and the second consecutive year. Like Rachel Homan's team at the women's tournament, Brad Gushue and his teammates finished with a perfect 13–0 record, which included defeating eventual runner-up Niklas Edin of Sweden three times. Switzerland won the bronze medal. With the win, Gushue became the first skip in the history of the sport to win the world junior title, the Olympic gold medal, and the world men's title, and Canada became the first country ever to be in simultaneous possession of Olympic and World championships in both men's and women's curling. 2017 Americas Challenge
The 2017 Americas Challenge was a curling challenge taking place from January 27 to 29 at the Duluth Curling Club in Duluth, Minnesota. The challenge round was held to determine which nation would qualify for the last Americas Zone spot at the 2017 Ford World Men's Curling Championship and the 2017 World Women's Curling Championship. Brazil and the United States played a best-of-five series to determine the winner in both the men's and women's event. Background The World Curling Federation allots two spots at the World Men's Curling Championship to the Americas Zone, which are normally taken by Canada and the United States. However, the World Curling Federation allows for other member nations in the Americas Zone (i.e. Brazil) to challenge Canada and/or the United States for berths to the World Championships. Zou Qiang
Zou Qiang (; born 13 August 1991 in Yichun) is a Chinese curler from Harbin. Career Juniors Zou skipped the Chinese team (which also consisted of Shao Zhilin, Zhang Tianyu and Liang Shuming), at the 2013 Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships to a gold medal. The team went 7-1 after the double round robin portion of the tournament, which put them in first place, and a bye to the final, where they faced off against South Korea. Zang Jialiang
Zang Jialiang (; born January 12, 1988, in Harbin, Heilongjiang) is a Chinese curler who trains in Harbin. He made his world championship debut at the 2008 Grand Forks World Championships. Team China achieved their best result to date. In the round robin portion they achieved upset wins over Team Canada and Team Norway. They would finish in third after the round robin and for the first time a men's team from the Pacific region would qualify for the Playoffs. Liu Rui (; born March 13, 1982 in Harbin, Heilongjiang; sometimes known as Rui Lui) is a Chinese curler. He was the skip of the Chinese men's Olympic Curling Team at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Liu played in his first World Curling Championships in 2008, playing third for Fengchun Wang. The team lost in the bronze medal game to Norway, settling for fourth place.
