The 2017 Springfield Lasers season will be the 22nd season of the franchise in World TeamTennis (WTT). Season recap Drafts Marquee Player Draft The Lasers had the second overall pick at the 2017 WTT Marquee Player Draft on February 16. They traded the pick along with other undisclosed consideration to the New York Empire for the first overall selection with which the Lasers drafted top-ranked American Jack Sock. In doing so, the Lasers left John Isner unprotected. He was chosen by the Empire with the first pick in the second round. The Empire selected Eugenie Bouchard with the pick they acquired from the Lasers in the trade. The Lasers passed on making any selections in the second and third rounds of the draft. John-Laffnie De Jager
John-Laffnie de Jager (born 17 March 1973) is a South African former tour professional tennis player. A doubles specialist, de Jager reached the semi-finals for three different grand slam tournaments three times in three different years partnering three different fellow South African players. de Jager is the current non-playing captain of the South Africa Davis Cup team. Career A native of Ermelo, de Jager turned professional in 1992 during which year he played his only tour singles. He won two of five matches he played on the challenger circuit and reached through qualifying the main draw at Wimbledon, where he lost in the first round to future champion Richard Krajicek, 7–5 6–1 6–2. Mediacom Stadium At Cooper Tennis Complex
The Cooper Tennis Complex is a tennis center located in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri with an entrance at 2331 East Pythian Street. The complex opened in 1994. Mediacom Stadium, home of the Springfield Lasers of World TeamTennis since 1996, is located within the complex. The stadium has a seating capacity of 2,500 people. In addition to the stadium, the complex has 16 other outdoor lighted courts and 12 indoor courts. There are also a full-service pro shop offering racquet stringing and grip services, locker rooms with showers, a fitness room with exercise equipment and free weights, a conference room and a meeting area located on the complex grounds. Programs and lessons are available for all ages and skill levels. The complex's tennis courts are available to the public for a fee. The Springfield Lasers are a World TeamTennis franchise. The franchise was purchased and donated to the city of Springfield, Missouri by the Cooper family in 1996. They play their home matches at Mediacom Stadium at Cooper Tennis Complex. History The team advanced to the league final in 1999, 2001, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2018 and 2019, and only in the last 2 years have they won the championship. In 2010, the Lasers had the best regular season record (10–4) in World TeamTennis and advanced to the WTT Western Conference Championship but lost to the Kansas City Explorers, 20 to 17. World TeamTennis (WTT) is a mixed-gender professional tennis league played with a team format in the United States, which was founded in 1973. The league's season normally takes place in the summer months. Players from the ATP and WTA take a break from their tour schedules to partake in World TeamTennis. Consideration
Consideration is a concept of English common law and is a necessity for simple contracts but not for special contracts (contracts by deed). The New York Empire is a World TeamTennis (WTT) team that plays its home matches at the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in the Bronx, New York City. The team played its inaugural 2016 season at the Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills, New York, before moving to Flushing in 2017. A draft is a process used in some countries (especially in North America) and sports (especially in closed leagues) to allocate certain players to teams. In a draft, teams take turns selecting from a pool of eligible players. When a team selects a player, the team receives exclusive rights to sign that player to a contract, and no other team in the league may sign the player. Jack Sock (born September 24, 1992) is an American professional tennis player. He has won four career ATP singles titles and 17 doubles titles, and has career-high rankings of world No. 8 in singles (on 20 November 2017) and world No. 2 in doubles (on 10 September 2018). John Isner
John Robert Isner (born April 26, 1985) is an American professional tennis player. He has been ranked as high as world No. 8 in singles and No. 14 in doubles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
