2017 PDL Season
The 2017 USL Premier Development League season is the 23rd season of the PDL. The Michigan Bucks entered the season as the defending champions, but their title defense campaign ended with a loss in the Central Conference semi-finals. On August 5, 2017, the Charlotte Eagles won their first PDL championship by defeating the Thunder Bay Chill 2-1. Charlotte Eagles
The Charlotte Eagles are an American professional soccer team based in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Founded in 1991, the team plays in USL League Two, the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. The team plays its home games at the Sportsplex at Matthews. The team's colors are orange, white and blue. History Founded in 1991 as the Charlotte Eagles Soccer Club, the team turned professional when it entered the USISL in 1993. The Eagles enjoyed a brief spell in the A-League before financial troubles caused them to return to the lower level. The Eagles are a division of Missionary Athletes International (MAI), an organization which undertakes sports ministry to share the message of Christianity through the environment of soccer. Premier Development League
USL League Two (USL2), formerly the Premier Development League (PDL), is a semi-professional developmental association football, soccer league sponsored by United Soccer Leagues in the United States and Canada, forming part of the United States soccer league system. The league features 113 teams for 2022, split into sixteen regional divisions across four conferences. USL League Two is headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Ventura County Fusion are the current champions, having defeated Long Island Rough Riders 2–1 in the 2022 USL League Two Championship game on August 6, 2022. Competition format USL League Two is divided into 4 conferences (Eastern, Central, Southern, and Western), comprising 16 divisions. Florida Tropics SC
Florida Tropics SC is a professional soccer club based in Lakeland, Florida. They are owned by Central Florida Sports Ventures, LLC, led by Dr. Panos Iakovidis, and former USL commissioner and Rochester Rhinos owner Chris Economides. The organization was originally founded in 2015 as a team in the Major Arena Soccer League before expanding into other leagues. The Tropics organization operates three senior teams across two different leagues. The first team is Florida Tropics SC, which plays in the professional Major Arena Soccer League. The club also fields two men's outdoor teams. The top outdoor is Tropics SC, which plays in the United Premier Soccer League First Division. Rice Track/Soccer Stadium
Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field is a stadium in Houston, Texas. It is primarily used for track and field and soccer for the Rice University Owls. It is bounded by Main Street (southeast), University Boulevard (southwest), Reckling Park baseball field (west) and open athletic fields (north). The stadium sits on the location of Rice Field, Rice's old football stadium which opened in 1913 and was used until the opening of Rice Stadium in 1950. (Games in 1912 had been played at West End Park). The venue held less than 37,000 people for football. Today, it holds approximately 5,000 people. Part of the grandstand from the visitor's side of the old football stadium is used as the current grandstand, although the bleachers were removed. Edible Field is a ballpark located in Bryan, Texas and home to the TCL Brazos Valley Bombers and the USL2 Brazos Valley Cavalry soccer team. Renamed by a corporate sponsorship with Edible Arrangements in 2021, it was long known as Travis Field during its use by several minor-league baseball teams and Texas A&M Aggies baseball for several decades. Bryan, Texas
Bryan is a city and the county seat of Brazos County, Texas, United States. It is located in the heart of the Brazos Valley (East and Central Texas). As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 83,980. Bryan borders the city of College Station, which lies to its south. Together they are referred to as the Bryan–College Station metropolitan area, which has a population of more than 250,069. Luis Swisher
Luis Arturo Swisher Salguero (born 21 June 1978) is a former Guatemalan football defender. Club career Swisher started his professional career with Aurora F.C. making his debut with the club in 1997. He then played for some other local teams before he joined Polish side Polonia Warszawa from CD Suchitepéquez in June 2005, after several exceptional years in Guatemala. He lasted only one season in Europe and returned to Suchitepéquez only to play for four different teams in the next four seasons. After joining Petapa in 2009 he moved to USAC before the 2009–2010 season. In March 2010, his former club Jalapa were deducted 6 points for breach of contract after not paying the salaries of Swisher and Maynor Dávila.
