2017 Men's South American Volleyball Club Championship
The 2017 Men's South American Volleyball Club Championship was the ninth official edition of the men's volleyball tournament, played by seven teams from 21 to 25 February 2017 in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Sada Cruzeiro won its second consecutive title, the fourth overall, and qualified for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship in Poland. Associação Social E Esportiva Sada
Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei is a Brazilian professional volleyball team based in Contagem, Minas Gerais, Brazil. They compete in the Brazilian Superliga and were the champions in the 2011–12, 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons. In 2012, 2014 and 2016 won the South American Championship. History Founded in 2006 in Betim, part of the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area in the state of Minas Gerais, Sada merged with Cruzeiro in 2009 and is now based in neighbouring Contagem. The volleyball team was founded in 2006 as "Sada Betim" and had the Grupo Sada as the main sponsor. Throughout the years, Sada, the company based in Betim, Minas Gerais, has become responsible for managing the "Club", and in 2008 the "Associação Social e Esportiva Sada" was created. In 2009 the partnership with Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, a traditional Brazilian football club was formalized, and the team gained one of the largest volleyball fan-bases in the country driven by Cruzeiro's about eight million supporters. The 2017 Women's South American Volleyball Club Championship was the ninth official edition of the women's volleyball tournament, played by six teams from 14–18 February 2017 in Uberaba and Uberlândia, Brazil. Rio de Janeiro won its third consecutive title, the fourth overall, and qualified for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship in Kobe, Japan. Robertlandy Simón Aties (born 11 June 1987) is a Cuban volleyball player, a member of Cuba men's national volleyball team from 2005–2010 and from 2019 to present day and also Italian club Cucine Lube Civitanova, 2009 NORCECA Champion, silver medalist of the 2010 World Championship, double South Korean Champion (2015, 2016). Career Simón debuted in the national team at age of 17. He was Cuban national team captain for 5 years. In 2009 he achieved individual awards at 2009 World Grand Champions Cup. William Arjona
William Arjona (born 31 July 1979) is a Brazilian volleyball player, a member of Brazil men's national volleyball team and Brazilian club Sada Cruzeiro. He is a 2016 Olympic Champion. Arjona was called up for the adult national team for the first time in 2003, he played four years in Bolivar, where he conquered the national championship four times and was chosen as the best player in the country. He came back in Brazil in 2010 to play for Sada Cruzeiro, where he won the Superliga 2012 as the best setter in the competition. Thomas Edgar (born 21 June 1989) is an Australian volleyball player. He competed for Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Career He began his career in Queensland. In the 2011–2012 season he played for the Italian Serie A2 club, Volley Corigliano. In the following season, Edgar transferred to Serie A1 club Sir Safety Perugia. In 2013 he moved to South Korea to play for LIG Insurance Greaters. In 2015 he played in the Chinese Volleyball League for Beijing. Thomas has been the captain of the team since 2015.
