2017 Men's Pan American Cup
The 2017 Men's Pan American Cup was the fifth edition of the Men's Pan American Cup, the quadrennial men's international field hockey championship of the Americas organized by the Pan American Hockey Federation. It was held between 4 and 12 August 2017 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States, simultaneously with the women's tournament. The tournament doubled as the qualifier for two major international tournaments: the winner qualified directly to the 2018 World Cup, and the two teams not qualifying through the 2018 South American Games or the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games qualified for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Also, the top 6 teams qualified for the next Pan American Cup, while the bottom two need to compete in the Pan American Challenge. Juan Ignacio Gilardi (born 14 November 1981) is an Argentine retired field hockey player who played as a defender for the Argentine national team. Martín Hernán Rodríguez Ducaud (born 26 March 1990) is a Chilean field hockey player. Career Junior national team In 2008, Rodríguez debuted for the Chile U–21 team at the Pan American Junior Championship in Port of Spain, winning a silver medal. After qualifying for the 2009 FIH Junior World Cup, Rodríguez again represented the junior national team at the tournament. Los Diablos Rodríguez made his senior international debut in 2008, at the South American Championship in Montevideo. Since his debut, Rodríguez has been a constant fixture in the Los Diablos team. The 2015 Men's Pan American Challenge was the second edition of the Men's Pan American Challenge. It was held between 3 and 11 October 2015 in Chiclayo, Peru, simultaneously with the women's tournament. Brazil won the tournament for the first time after defeating Venezuela 1–0 in the final. Uruguay won the bronze medal by defeating Guyana 3–2 in a penalty shoot-out following a 2–2 draw. The top two teams also qualified for the 2017 Pan American Cup.
