2017 LFA Season
The 2017 LFA season was the second season of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional. This season saw two new franchises join the league: Dinos(short for "dinosaurios", the Spanish word for dinosaurs) and Fundidores(Spanish for smelters or founders) to bring the league to a total of 6 teams. The regular season began on February 18 and concluded on April 9. The Tazón México II was played on April 30 with the Mayas defeating the Raptors to win their second LFA championship. News On September 28, 2016, the LFA announced its expansion for the 2017 season: the Monterrey Founders and the Saltillo Dinos. Prior to the Mexico II Bowl, the visiting team, Dinos, was about to cancel the match since they had to travel by bus 10 hours from Saltillo to Mexico City, get to play and return immediately, with no opportunity to train or rest before the game, which put them at a notable disadvantage. Dinos Saltillo
Dinos de Saltillo (English: ''Saltillo Dinos'') are an American football team based in Saltillo, Mexico. The Dinos compete in the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The team plays its home games at the Estadio Francisco I. Madero. History The team was founded on 28 September 2016, in resemblance of the semi-professional team with the same name that played in the Mexican Master Football League from 1995 to 1996 in the city of Saltillo. The team participated in the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional for the first time in the 2017 season. Under head coach Guillermo Ruiz Burguete, the team finished with a 2–5 record, nevertheless, due to the competition system, Dinos still classified for playoffs and defeated Raptors for the North Division championship, classifying for the Tazón México in their first year in the league. Mayas CDMX
The Mayas, also called Mayas LFA or Mayas Puebla, were an American football team based in Mexico City (CDMX), Mexico. The Mayas competed in the Central Division of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The Mayas played their home games at the Estadio Wilfrido Massieu. Mayas was the most successful team in the LFA until it folded in 2020, winning the championship twice in 2016 and 2017, and qualifying for playoffs every season as of 2019. The Mexicas de la Ciudad de México, also called Mexicas LFA or Mexicas CDMX, are an American football team based in Mexico City (CDMX), Mexico. The team was founded in 2015 with the name of Eagles, and is one of the four charter members of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The Mexicas play their home games at the Estadio Jesús Martínez "Palillo". History The team was founded on 4 November 2015, one of the four original franchises of the LFA. The team hoped to draw fans from the local university, Instituto Politécnico Nacional. The IPN football team, the Águilas Blancas (White Eagles), were one of the most popular teams in ONEFA and their team colors are cherry and white. Bruno Márquez
Bruno Daniel Márquez Albarrán (born 21 September 1989) is a Mexican professional gridiron football quarterback for Raptors de Naucalpan of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA). He played college football with Pumas CU before joining the LFA, where he was named league MVP in 2017 and 2019. He has also appeared for the Mexico national team, most notably at the 2011 IFAF World Championship. Márquez attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he led their football team to two national championships and was named ONEFA player of the year in his final season. A few years after graduation, he accepted an offer to play in the upstart LFA as one of its marquee players. Gerardo Álvarez
Gerardo Elías Álvarez Ovalle (born 15 September 1988) is a Mexican professional gridiron football wide receiver for the Dinos de Saltillo of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA). Álvarez played college football at UAC and previously played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the BC Lions. Early career Álvarez plays American football since he was a kid, where he earned the nickname "Pewee" for his small and thin complexion. Despite this, he was invited by several college football programs to join their teams. Álvarez chose the Lobos of the Autonomous University of Coahuila, where he played from 2006 to 2010, also majoring in Civil engineering. Omar Alejandro Cojolum Delgado (born 15 June 1990) is a Mexican professional gridiron football running back for the Dinos de Saltillo of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA). Cojolum played college football at the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM). He started his professional career in 2016 with the Mayas CDMX, winning the 2016 and 2017 Tazón México. In 2020, after spending the offseason with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL), Cojolum returned to Mexico and was signed by Dinos de Saltillo.
