2017 Isle Of Anglesey County Council Election
The 2017 Isle of Anglesey County Council election, to the Isle of Anglesey County Council was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 United Kingdom local elections. All 30 council seats were up for election. The previous full election took place in 2013 and the following one in 2022. Overall results Following the election Plaid Cymru gained two additional seats overall to become the largest party with 14 councillors. The Independents, ruling the council prior to the election, were reduced to 13 councillors. Previous Independent Group leader, Ieuan Williams, stood down from this position prior to the election. The Independent council leader prior to 2013, Bryan Owen, won a seat in the Bro Aberffraw ward, having previously lost his Canolbarth Môn seat in May 2013. 2022 Isle Of Anglesey County Council Election
An election to Isle of Anglesey County Council took place on Thursday 5 May 2022 to elect all 35 members of Isle of Anglesey County Council. It was held on the same day as all other councils in Wales, as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections. The election saw the amount of councillors elected to Isle of Anglesey County Council increase, from 30 to 35, as part of boundary changes to the council carried out by the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales. Plaid Cymru gained the council from no overall control, leading to the first administration formed of only political parties since the council's creation in 1996. History The first county council for Anglesey was created in 1889 under the Local Government Act 1888, which established elected county councils to take over the administrative functions of the quarter sessions. 2017 United Kingdom Local Elections
The 2017 United Kingdom local elections were held on Thursday 4 May 2017. Local elections were held across Great Britain, with elections to 35 English local authorities and all councils in Scotland and Wales. Newly created combined authority mayors were directly elected in six areas of England: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, the Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, the West Midlands, and the West of England. In addition, Doncaster and North Tyneside re-elected local authority mayors. Local by-elections for 107 council seats also took place on 4 May. Bro Aberffraw is an electoral ward in the southern corner of Anglesey, Wales. It comprises the three communities of Aberffraw, Bodorgan and Rhosyr ( Newborough and Dwyran). Canolbarth Môn elects two county councillors to the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Bro Aberffraw was one of the eleven multi-councillor wards created following the Isle of Anglesey electoral boundary changes in 2012. Prior to this the Bro Aberffraw area was covered by a separate Rhosyr ward and the majority of an Aberffraw ward and Bodorgan county ward which each elected their own county councillor. Aethwy is the name of an electoral ward in the south of Anglesey, Wales, created in 2012. It contains the population centres of Menai Bridge and Llanfair PG. Aethwy covers the communities of Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, Menai Bridge and Penmynydd. The ward elects three county councillors to the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Aethwy is bordered to the southwest by Bro Rhosyr and to the northeast by the Seiriol ward. Bro Rhosyr is an electoral ward in the south of Anglesey, Wales, created in 2012. Bro Rhosyr includes the communities of Llanidan (Brynsiencyn), Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog (Gaerwen), Llanddaniel-fab and Llangristiolus.
