2022 Isle Of Anglesey County Council Election
An election to Isle of Anglesey County Council took place on Thursday 5 May 2022 to elect all 35 members of Isle of Anglesey County Council. It was held on the same day as all other councils in Wales, as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections. The election saw the amount of councillors elected to Isle of Anglesey County Council increase, from 30 to 35, as part of boundary changes to the council carried out by the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales. Plaid Cymru gained the council from no overall control, leading to the first administration formed of only political parties since the council's creation in 1996. 2017 Isle Of Anglesey County Council Election
The 2017 Isle of Anglesey County Council election, to the Isle of Anglesey County Council was held on 4 May 2017 as part of the 2017 United Kingdom local elections. All 30 council seats were up for election. The previous full election took place in 2013 and the following one in 2022. Overall results Following the election Plaid Cymru gained two additional seats overall to become the largest party with 14 councillors. The Independents, ruling the council prior to the election, were reduced to 13 councillors. Previous Independent Group leader, Ieuan Williams, stood down from this position prior to the election. The Independent council leader prior to 2013, Bryan Owen, won a seat in the Bro Aberffraw ward, having previously lost his Canolbarth Môn seat in May 2013. The Isle of Anglesey County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn) is the local authority for the county of Anglesey, one of the principal areas of Wales. Since 2022 the council has 35 councillors who represent 11 multi-member electoral wards. History The first county council for Anglesey was created in 1889 under the Local Government Act 1888, which established elected county councils to take over the administrative functions of the quarter sessions. The original county council did not include "Isle of" in its name, simply being called "Anglesey County Council". 2022 Welsh Local Elections
The 2022 Welsh local elections are due to be held on 5 May 2022 to elect members of all twenty-two local authorities in Wales. They are being held alongside other local elections in the United Kingdom. The last elections were held in 2017. Background In the last local elections in 2017, 1,271 seats were elected. The Labour Party won 468 seats, independent candidates won 309 seats, Plaid Cymru won 208 seats, the Conservative Party won 184 seats and the Liberal Democrats won 63 seats. The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales ( cy, Comisiwn Ffiniau a Democratiaeth Leol Cymru) is a Welsh Government sponsored body, responsible for defining borders for local elections and government in Wales. Aethwy (electoral Ward)
Aethwy is the name of an electoral ward in the south of Anglesey, Wales, created in 2012. It contains the population centres of Menai Bridge and Llanfair PG. Aethwy covers the communities of Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, Menai Bridge and Penmynydd. The ward elects three county councillors to the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Aethwy is bordered to the southwest by Bro Rhosyr and to the northeast by the Seiriol ward. The Aethwy ward was created following the Isle of Anglesey electoral boundary changes in 2012, which created 11 multi-councillor wards from 40 single-councillor wards.
