2017 Indiana Hoosiers Baseball Team
The 2017 Indiana Hoosiers baseball team is a baseball team that represented Indiana University in the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Hoosiers are members of the Big Ten Conference and played their home games at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Indiana. They were led by third-year head coach Chris Lemonis. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Hoosiers were selected to play in the 2017 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament#Louisville Super Regional, 2017 NCAA Tournament, beginning in the Lexington Regional. The Hoosiers would eventually lose in the second round of the Lexington Regional to Kentucky Wildcats baseball, Kentucky by a score of 9–14. Chris Lemonis
Christopher Michael Lemonis (born January 22, 1970) is an American college baseball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball team. Lemonis grew up in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He played college baseball as a first baseman at The Citadel, where he appeared with the team in the 1990 College World Series. He later earned All-SoCon honors twice and led the team in several offensive categories as a senior in 1993. In 1995, Lemonis began his coaching career as an assistant coach for The Citadel, a position he would hold until 2006. During his time on staff, The Citadel qualified for the NCAA Tournament five times and had seven All-American players. From 2007 to 2014, Lemonis was an assistant coach at Louisville, helping Louisville make seven NCAA Tournament appearances including the 2007 College World Series. Caleb Baragar
Caleb Baragar (born April 9, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Cleveland Guardians organization. He pitched in college baseball for Jackson College and Indiana Hoosiers baseball, Indiana University. Baragar was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the ninth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, 2016 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2020. Greenwood, Indiana
Greenwood is a city in Johnson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 63,830 at the 2020 Census. Greenwood is located between Indiana State Road 37 and Interstate 65. The city shares a border with Indianapolis and is the most populous suburban municipality in the southern portion of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area. Mount Carmel High School is an all-boys, Catholic high school in Chicago's Woodlawn, Chicago, Woodlawn neighborhood. 2017 Big Ten Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2017 Big Ten Conference baseball tournament was held at Bart Kaufman Field on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana from May 24 through 28. The Iowa Hawkeyes baseball, Iowa Hawkeyes claimed the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. The event aired on the Big Ten Network. The event was held in Bloomington for one year before returning to Omaha, Nebraska, site of the College World Series. Format and seeding The 2017 tournament was an 8 team double-elimination tournament. The top eight teams based on conference regular season winning percentage earned invites to the tournament. The teams then played a double-elimination tournament leading to a single championship game. In baseball, a captain is an honorary title sometimes given to a member of the team to acknowledge his leadership. In the early days of baseball, a captain was a player who was responsible for many of the functions now assumed by managers and coaches, such as preparing lineups, making decisions about strategy, and encouraging teamwork. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Standard arrangement of positions In a game of baseball, two teams of nine players take turns playing offensive and defensive roles.
