2017 Big Ten Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2017 Big Ten Conference baseball tournament was held at Bart Kaufman Field on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana from May 24 through 28. The Iowa Hawkeyes baseball, Iowa Hawkeyes claimed the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. The event aired on the Big Ten Network. The event was held in Bloomington for one year before returning to Omaha, Nebraska, site of the College World Series. Format and seeding The 2017 tournament was an 8 team double-elimination tournament. The top eight teams based on conference regular season winning percentage earned invites to the tournament. The teams then played a double-elimination tournament leading to a single championship game. Iowa Hawkeyes Baseball
The Iowa Hawkeyes baseball program represents the University of Iowa in college baseball. The program started in 1890. It is a member of the Big Ten Conference and is the only NCAA Division I baseball program in the state of Iowa. Record by year This is a table of the Iowa Hawkeyes record year-by-year. Starting with the 1981 season the Big Ten tournament winner was declared conference champion. It also marked the first season of East and West divisions in the conference. Rick Heller is an American baseball coach and former shortstop, who is the current head baseball coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Heller played college baseball at Upper Iowa for head coach Bill Prochaska from 1982 to 1986. He then served as the head Upper Iowa Peacocks (1988–1999), the Northern Iowa Panthers (2000–2009) and the Indiana State Sycamores (2010–2013). Bart Kaufman Field
Bart Kaufman Field is a baseball field in Bloomington, Indiana. It is home of the Indiana Hoosiers baseball team. The capacity of the facility is 2,500 spectators. It is named after Bart Kaufman, an alumnus who played in 1960-61-62. In 1961 he was the second-leading hitter (.452) in the Big Ten to longtime Detroit Tigers player Bill Freehan of the University of Michigan. Kaufman pledged $2.5 million to get the project going. Many teammates contributed to name the Indiana dugout after longtime baseball coach Ernie Andres. Much of the cost, reported to be in excess of $19 million including Andy Mohr Field for softball, was funded by proceeds from the Big Ten Network. The Big Ten Conference (stylized B1G, formerly the Western Conference and the Big Nine Conference) is the oldest Division I collegiate athletic conference in the United States.
