The 2017 FIBA U16 European Championship was the 31st edition of the Under-16 European Basketball Championship. The tournament was held in Podgorica, Montenegro, from 11 to 19 August 2017. Sixteen (16) teams participated, including 2016 Division B top three finishers. Hosts selection On 21 November 2016, FIBA Europe announced during their Board Meeting held in Istanbul, Turkey that Montenegro will be the organising country for the tournament. Théo Maledon
Théo Louis Maledon (born 12 June 2001; pronounced ) is a French professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA), on a two-way contract with the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League. He plays the point guard position. Born in Rouen, Maledon played youth basketball for French sports institute INSEP before joining the youth ranks of ASVEL at age 16. One year later, at the senior level, he became the youngest LNB All-Star in history and won the LNB Pro A Best Young Player award. He helped ASVEL win Pro A and French Cup titles, while being named French Cup Final Most Valuable Player (MVP). At the youth international level, Maledon won a gold medal with France at the 2016 FIBA U16 European Championship and a silver medal at the 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Cup. Bojan Tomašević ( sr-cyr, Бојан Томашевић, born June 20, 2001) is a Montenegrin professional basketball player for KK Borac Čačak, Borac Čačak of the Basketball League of Serbia and the ABA League, Adriatic League. Early career Tomašević started to play basketball for OKK Montenegro in his hometown Nikšić. In summer 2015, Tomašević joined the KK Crvena zvezda (youth), Crvena zvezda youth team. Killian Deron Antron Hayes (born July 27, 2001) is a French-American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing , he mainly plays the point guard and shooting guard positions. The son of basketball player DeRon Hayes, he was born in Lakeland, Florida but grew up in France due to his father's professional career. FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship
The FIBA U16 European Championship, previously known as the FIBA Europe Championship for Cadets, is a youth basketball competition that was inaugurated with the 1971 edition. Through the 2003 edition, it was held every second year, but since the 2004 edition onward, it is held every year. It serves as the qualification tournament for the FIBA Under-17 World Cup in odd years, for the FIBA Europe region. The current champions are Lithuania.
