The 2016–17 Dutch Basketball League was the 57th season of the Dutch Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands. The season started on October 8, 2016 and ended May 25, 2017. Donar successfully defended its title. Teams Den Bosch and BSW were both close to bankruptcy in the offseason, but managed to stay alive. Challenge Sports Rotterdam changed its name to Forward Lease Rotterdam, after they got a new main sponsor. On November 1, Den Bosch changed its name to New Heroes. Foreign players The number of foreign players during the 2016–17 season was restricted to four per DBL team. Regular season The Regular season started on 8 October 2016 and finished 8 April 2017. Standings Play-offs The play-offs started on April 15 and ended on May 28, 2017. In the quarterfinals a best-of-three format is used, while in the semifinals and finals in a best-of-seven format. The 2015–16 Dutch Basketball League season was the 56th season of the Dutch Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands. The seasons started on October 6, 2015 and ended May 27, 2016. The defending champion was SPM Shoeters Den Bosch. Donar won its fifth national title, after beating Landstede 1–4 in the Final. Import players Each team was allowed to play with a maximum of four foreign players, according to DBL regulations. Teams On June 18, 2015, it was announced that all teams from the 2014–15 season would return. Heroes Den Bosch is a Dutch professional basketball club based in 's-Hertogenbosch. The club plays in the BNXT League since 2021 and in the top basketball division in the Netherlands since 1972. Founded as EBBC in 1951, the club had several sponsored names the following decades. Den Bosch has won a record seventeen List of Dutch basketball champions, Dutch championships, seven Dutch Basketball Cup, Dutch Cup and two Dutch Basketball Supercup, Dutch Supercup titles. The team has also been a regular at European competitions, most recently the FIBA Europe Cup. Heroes plays their home games at the Maaspoort, which has a capacity of approximately 2,700 people.
