The 2016–17 Austrian Football Bundesliga was the 105th season of top-tier football in Austria. Red Bull Salzburg are the defending champions. The fixtures were announced on 14 June 2016. Austrian Football Bundesliga
The Austrian Football Bundesliga (german: Österreichische Fußball-Bundesliga, italic=no , "Austrian Football Federal League"), also known as Admiral Bundesliga for sponsorship reasons, is the top level of the Austrian football league system. The competition decides the Austrian national football champions, as well the country's entrants for the various European cups run by UEFA. Since Austria stayed in sixteenth place in the UEFA association coefficient rankings at the end of the 2015–16 season, the league gained its first spot for the UEFA Champions League for the 2016-2017 season. The Austrian Bundesliga, which began in the 1974–75 season, has been a separate registered association since 1 December 1991. It has been won the most by the two Viennese giants Austria Wien, who were national champions 24 times, and Rapid Wien, who won the national title 32 times. The 2015–16 Austrian Football First League (German: ''Erste Liga'', also known as ''Sky Go Erste Liga'' due to sponsorship) was the 42nd season of the Austrian second-level football league. It began on 24 July 2015 and ended on 25 May 2016. Teams Ten teams participate in the 2015-16 season. Austria Salzburg was directly promoted after winning the 2014–15 Regionalliga West. Austria Klagenfurt promoted from the Regionalliga Mitte after winning the promotion play-offs. Wiener Neustadt relegated from the 2014–15 Bundesliga. Altach is a municipality in the district of Feldkirch, in the westernmost Austrian state of Vorarlberg. Wals-Siezenheim () is a municipality in the district of Salzburg-Umgebung (''Flachgau'') in the Austrian state of Salzburg. The double municipality had been founded in 1948 of the places Wals and Siezenheim. In the same year the arm had been conferred. The population figure rose up from 1,000 inhabitants in 1947 to approximately 11,000 in 2001. Previous Wals was part of the separate municipality Siezenheim, but even so Liefering and a giant part of Taxach. Geography The municipality is located between the city of Salzburg in the east and the Austrian border with Germany in the west. It was established in 1948 by the merger of Wals and Siezenheim, after parts of its territories had been incorporated into the Salzburg city limits. Allianz Stadion is a football stadium which is built on the site of the former Gerhard Hanappi Stadium as the new home of SK Rapid Wien. In international matches the stadium has the no-commercial name Weststadion. Demolition of the old stadium began in early October 2014, after a ceremonial farewell with thousands of fans. By January 2015 almost nothing was left of the old stadium, which allowed foundation works for the new arena.
