Norwegian Television
Television in Norway was Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, introduced in 1954, but the first television program was only shown in 1958, and regular broadcasts did not start until 1960. Like Denmark, Norway had only one television channel until the 1980s. Some 40% of the population have Cable television, cable TV, and 30% have Satellite television, satellite TV. Another 30% have terrestrial television only. In Norway, all advertising containing political messages and advertising aimed at children are prohibited. Channels such as TV3 (Norway), TV3 are allowed to broadcast commercial breaks, as these channels are being broadcast via satellite from the United Kingdom. Idol (Norwegian TV Series)
''Idol - Jakten på en superstjerne'' is a television show on the Norwegian television channel TV 2, based on the popular British show ''Pop Idol''. The show describes itself as a "Search For A SuperStar". The contestants are first narrowed down to 100 contestants, and then down to 24-50 through several auditions and tests by a panel of judges. From this point on, the viewers decide who are in and who are out, and the judges limit themselves to commenting. TV viewers being what they are, the votes are based not solely on the singers vocal performance, but also on his or her looks, clothes, entertainment value, and other factors. In the first four seasons the agelimit for participation was 16–28 years old. In season five it was changed to 16–35. Kjartan Salvesen
Kjartan Salvesen (born 17 October 1976 in Sandnes) is the winner of the second season of Norwegian version of Idol by 840.000 votes, the highest number for any participant on the show. His single "Standing Tall" sold 5 times platinum, making it the most sold single of all time in Norway. He later released a self-titled album that sold platinum. He is also known to be a big fan of Viking FK and appeared in a performance on the opening of Viking Stadion. He has also played in the highest Norwegian league in floorball. Skal Vi Danse?
''Skal vi danse'' is the Norwegian edition of the British television series, ''Strictly Come Dancing''. It is produced by Monster Entertainment and broadcast on TV 2 Jon Peder Olrud and Geir Bie were producers in the first season. The second and third seasons were produced by Ingvild Daae. The series premiered on TV 2 on January 15, 2006. ''Skal vi danse?'' in Norwegian means "shall we dance?" and the Dancing celebrities with professional dancers and companies are reviewed by a panel of judges and the TV viewers. Each pair consists of a celebrity and a professional dancer and the one with the fewest votes does not participate in the next round. The series has had high ratings in Norway, with an average of between 600,000 and 700,000 viewers. The record with 733,000 viewers on average in the season premiere was reached for the first program of series 4 (12 September 2008). Only the final episodes of each series have had higher numbers. ''Norske Talenter'' (English: ''Norway’s Got Talent'', ''Norwegian Talents'') is a Norway, Norwegian talent show with a similar format to ''Britain's Got Talent,'' making it one of the ''Got Talent'' franchise programmes. The 16-year-old singer Erlend Bratland won the first series and Quick Style, a hip hop dance group, won the second series. The judges were music producer Jan Fredrik Karlsen, singer and actress Mia Gundersen and comedian/actor Thomas Giertsen. The Voice – Norges Beste Stemme
''The Voice – Norges beste stemme'' (Norwegian for ''The Voice – Norway's best Voice'') is a Norwegian reality singing competition and local version of ''The Voice'' first broadcast as ''The Voice of Holland''. It started on 27 January 2012 and the final aired on 25 May 2012 on TV2. One of the important premises of the show is the quality of the singing talent. Four coaches, themselves popular performing artists, train the talents in their group and occasionally perform with them. Talents are selected in blind auditions, where the coaches cannot see, but only hear the auditioner. Format The series consists of three phases: a blind audition, a battle phase, and live performance shows. Four judges/coaches, all noteworthy recording artists, choose teams of contestants through a blind audition process. BBC HD (international)
BBC HD is an international high-definition television channel provided by BBC Studios. In many countries the channel has been replaced by other BBC Studios operations. At present, the channel is only available in selected cruise ships and within the maritime industry. It first launched in Australia. An Australian version of BBC HD was broadcast on the Foxtel HD+ service which was made available to subscribers on 2 June 2008 and was officially launched on 22 June 2008. On 15 November 2009 it was replaced on Foxtel HD+ by UKTV HD. During the first broadcast of BBC World News America, it was announced that BBC America HD would be launched in 2008.
