2016 Women's World Open Squash Championship
The 2016 Women's World Open Squash Championship is the women's edition of the 2016 World Championships, which serves as the individual world championship for squash players. It was originally scheduled to take place in Malaysia. In January 2017, El Gouna was selected as the championships' replacement host, with the tournament scheduled to take place alongside the men's annual El Gouna Squash Open between 7 and 14 April 2017 inclusive. It is the third time in four editions the tournament has been held after its designated year. Prize money and ranking points For 2016, the prize purse was $165,000. El Gouna
El Gouna ( ar, الجونة ' , "the Lagoon") is an Egyptian tourist city, owned and developed by Samih Sawiris' Orascom Development, dating from 1989. It is located on the Red Sea in the Red Sea Governorate of Egypt, north of Hurghada. It is part of the Red Sea Riviera, and a host city of the El Gouna Film Festival. Hania El Hammamy (born 1 September 2000 in Cairo) is an Egyptian professional squash player. She became a top seed in women's junior squash rankings at the age of 16. As of January 2022, she is ranked number 3 in the world. Rowan Reda Araby or Rowan Elaraby (born 29 July 2000 in Alexandria) is an Egyptian professional squash player. As of April 2022, she was ranked number 8 in the world. Araby won the 2022 Carol Weimoller Women's Squash Championship, after defeating Malaysian player Sivasanjari Subramaniam 3–1, for the first time in her history. Dipika Pallikal Karthik (née Pallikal; born 21 September 1991) is an Indian professional squash player. She is the first Indian to break into the top 10 in the PSA Women's rankings. Dipika Pallikal came to prominence in 2011, when she won three WISPA tour titles. She broke into the top 10 in December 2012. Early life Dipika Pallikal was born in Kottayam into a Malayali Christian family. She is the daughter of Sanjiv and Susan Pallikal. Rachael Margaret Grinham (born 22 January 1977 in Toowoomba, Queensland) is an Australian professional squash player.
