2016 Women's Rugby Sevens Final Olympic Qualification Tournament
The 2016 Rugby World Women's Sevens Olympic Repechage Tournament was a qualification tournament for the women's rugby sevens 2016 Summer Olympics which was held on 25–26 June 2016. The tournament used a round-robin format, with the top team qualifying directly to the Olympics. The tournament took place at the UCD Bowl in Dublin, Ireland. Teams 1. Kenya, as the runners-up in the African qualifying tournament, would have qualified to this tournament, but instead qualified directly for the Olympics after South Africa withdrew. Madagascar, the fifth-place finisher in qualifying, was named as a replacement. Twelve teams qualify for women's rugby sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics . Japan automatically qualifies as host, with the top four teams of the 2018–19 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series securing their spots. The South Africa women's national rugby sevens team competes at events within the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series and was a core team for 2014–15 season. They first played in the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens, and also competed in the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup in the 2011–12 season. South Africa did not qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics despite winning the 2015 Women's Africa Cup Sevens because the South African Olympic Committee (SASCOC) rules states that teams cannot qualify by winning continental titles.
