2016 U.S. Olympic Trials (gymnastics)
The 2016 United States Olympic Trials (gymnastics), U.S. Olympic gymnastics team trials were split into separate events for Women's Artistic Gymnastics and Men's Artistic Gymnastics. The women's event was held from July 8 to 10, 2016 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California and the men's event was held June 23–26, 2016 at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri. Venue The women's event was held at the SAP Center, which has a capacity of up to 19,190 spectators for concerts and hosted the 2012 U.S. Olympic trials, which held both women's and men's artistic gymnastics events. It is home to the National Hockey League team, the San Jose Sharks. The men's event was held at Chaifetz Arena. Promotion In February 2016, 2008 Olympian Shawn Johnson visited the San Jose area to promote the women's event. 2012 Olympian Jordyn Wieber visited St. Louis to promote the men's event in early June. Simone Biles
Simone Arianne Biles (; born March 14, 1997) is an American artistic gymnast. Her seven Olympic medals tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast. Having won 25 World Championship medals, she is the most decorated gymnast in history, and is considered by many sources to be the greatest gymnast of all time. In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. Rachel Gowey
Rachel Kathryn Gowey (born October 3, 1997) is a former American artistic gymnast. She was a U.S. National Team member, from 2014 until her retirement from elite gymnastics in 2016, following her performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Gowey was a member of the gold-winning U.S. team at the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto. There, she also won a gold medal individually on the uneven bars. During her elite career, she was coached by Liang Chow, coach of 2008 Olympic balance beam champion Shawn Johnson and 2012 Olympic individual all-around champion Gabby Douglas. She was coached by Jenny Rowland at the University of Florida, where she began attending in 2016. Oklahoma Sooners Women's Gymnastics
The Oklahoma Sooners women's gymnastics team represents the University of Oklahoma in NCAA competition and competes in the Big 12 Conference. The Sooners have won thirteen Big 12 titles, 7 NCAA Regional championships, and have appeared in 15 NCAA National Championships. In 2014, the Sooners won the program's first-ever team national title in the first-ever NCAA gymnastics championships tie, tying with Florida with a score of 198.175. Brenna Dowell (born March 4, 1996) is a former American artistic gymnast. She was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. team at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Buckeye Gymnastics is an American women's artistic gymnastics academy, with two locations in Westerville and Powell. It was home to Olympic Champion Gabby Douglas during her 2016 Olympic comeback. History Buckeye Gymnastics was founded in November 1982 by former Ohio State University gymnast, David Holcomb and partner Alan Ashworth. January 1983 in a 4,600 square foot facility, and served merely 52 gymnasts at that time. Buckeye Gymnastics then moved to a new, larger building in 1986. During this time PanAmerican Games gymnast Tracy Butler trained at the gym. Holcomb became the sole owner of the gym in the late 1990s after acquiring Ashworth’s percentage of the company. Tarzana is a suburban neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. Tarzana is on the site of a former ranch owned by author Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is named after Burroughs' fictional jungle hero, Tarzan. History The area now known as Tarzana was occupied in 1797 by Spanish settlers and missionaries who established the San Fernando Mission. Later absorbed by Mexico, the land was surrendered to the United States in 1848 by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo following the Mexican–American War.
