2016 Three Days Of De Panne
The 2016 Three Days of De Panne (Dutch: ''Driedaagse De Panne–Koksijde'') was the 40th edition of the Three Days of De Panne cycling stage race. The race included four stages, two of which took place on the final day. It was rated as a 2.HC event in the 2016 UCI Europe Tour. Stages The race includes four stages. The first three of these are road stages, while the fourth is an individual time trial. Teams 22 teams took part in the 2016 Three Days of De Panne. 11 of these were UCI WorldTeams and the remaining 11 were UCI Professional Continental teams. Wanty–Groupe Gobert withdrew before the start of the race on Monday 28 March after the death of Antoine Demoitié in Gent–Wevelgem a day earlier. The 2016 UCI Europe Tour was the twelfth season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2016 season began on 28 January 2016 with the Vuelta a Mallorca, Trofeo Santanyí-Ses Salines-Campos and ended on 23 October 2016 with the Chrono des Nations. French rider Nacer Bouhanni (), who scored 721 points in the 2015 UCI Europe Tour, 2015 edition, was the defending champion of the 2015 UCI Europe Tour. Elia Viviani (born 7 February 1989) is an Italian professional Cycle sport, cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Mads Pedersen (born 18 December 1995) is a Danish professional racing cyclist, who rides for UCI WorldTeam . In September 2019, he won the men's road race at the 2019 UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire, England, and became the first Danish cyclist to win the men's World Championship road race title. Career In 2013, Pedersen won the Paris–Roubaix Juniors and went on to claim the silver medal in the World Championships junior road race. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the governing body of cycling, categorises teams into three divisions. The top 18 teams are the UCI WorldTeams and compete in the UCI World Tour. The second and third divisions respectively are the Professional Continental teams and the Continental teams. 2016 Gent–Wevelgem
The 2016 Gent–Wevelgem, (officially Gent–Wevelgem – In Flanders Fields) was a one-day cycling classic that took place on 27 March 2016. It was the 78th edition of the Gent–Wevelgem race and the seventh event of the 2016 UCI World Tour. The race followed a course that started in Deinze and ended in Wevelgem in Belgium, with a portion of the race spent in northern France. The race included ten climbs, several of them cobbled, which provided the principal difficulty in the race. The last and most difficult climb was the Kemmelberg. The favourites for the race included Alexander Kristoff (), Fabian Cancellara () and Peter Sagan (). The race was won by Sagan, who escaped with Cancellara and Sep Vanmarcke () on the Kemmelberg after a series of splits had occurred in the first half of the race. Antoine Demoitié
Antoine Demoitié (16 October 1990 – 27 March 2016) was a Belgian cyclist, who rode professionally between 2011 and his death in 2016. Death At the age of 25, Demoitié crashed on 27 March 2016 when he went down in a pile-up of several cyclists and was then hit by a motorcycle in the Gent–Wevelgem road race. The UCI Continental Circuits are a series of road bicycle racing competitions which were introduced in 2005 by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to expand cycling around the world. Individual Time Trial
An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock (in French: ''contre la montre'' – literally "against the watch", in Italian: ''tappa a cronometro'' "stopwatch stage"). There are also track-based time trials where riders compete in velodromes, and team time trials (TTT). ITTs are also referred to as "the race of truth", as winning depends only on each rider's strength and endurance, and not on help provided by teammates and others riding ahead and creating a slipstream.
