2016 Syrian Cup
The 2016 version of the Syrian Cup is the 46th edition to be played. It is the premier knockout tournament for football teams in Syria. Al-Wahda are the defending champions. The competition has been disrupted because of the ongoing Syrian Civil War, where some games have been awarded as 3:0 victories due to teams not being able to compete. The winners of the competition will enter the 2017 AFC Cup qualifying playoffs. Al-Majd Sports Club ( ar, نادي المجد الرياضي) is a Syrian football club based in Damascus, Syria. The club is insignificant compared to the city rival Al-Wahda, but more popular than the other rival Al-Jaish. History The club was founded in 1932 under the name of Damascus Al-Ahly Club, and is one of the oldest football clubs in Damascus and the whole country. The club's greatest success is the Syrian cup victory in the 1960/61 and 1977/78 season.
