2016 San Jose State Spartans Football Team
The 2016 San Jose State Spartans football team represented San Jose State University in the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Spartans were led by fourth-year head coach Ron Caragher and played their home games at Spartan Stadium. They were members of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division. They finished the season 4–8, 3–5 in Mountain West play to finish in a three-way tie for third place in the West Division. On November 27, head coach Ron Caragher was fired. Caragher finished at San Jose State with a four-year record of 19–30. Ron Caragher
Ronald Allen Caragher (born January 24, 1967) is an American athletics administrator and former college football coach who currently serves as the assistant athletics director for development at the University of San Diego. He was previously the head coach at the University of San Diego and San Jose State. Originally from Morgan Hill, California, Caragher played college football at UCLA and later became an assistant coach for UCLA football, first as a graduate assistant from 1994 to 1995, then as wide receivers coach from 1996 to 2002. From 2003 to 2006, Caragher served as running backs coach for Kentucky and was part of the 2006 Music City Bowl championship coaching staff. Caragher first became a head coach at the University of San Diego in 2007 and remained in that position until 2012. During his tenure there, San Diego won three Pioneer Football League championships. Bailey Gaither
Bailey Gaither (born January 11, 1997) is an American football wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at San Jose State. College career After graduating high school, Gaither enrolled at San Jose State, where in his first year he redshirted. After being a redshirt throughout the 2015 season, Gaither started one game in 2016, making 4 receptions for 43 yards and 1 touchdown. He also returned 7 kickoffs for 128 yards. In the 2017 season, Gaither started 4 of 9 games. He recorded 22 catches for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also returned 13 kicks for 256 yards and blocked a punt. Joshua Michael Love (born September 12, 1996) is an American football quarterback who is a free agent. He played college football for San Jose State. He also played for the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL) and the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL.
