The 2016 Russian Football Super Cup was the 14th Russian Super Cup match, a football match which was contested between the 2015–16 Russian Premier League champion, CSKA Moscow, and the 2015–16 Russian Cup champion, Zenit Saint Petersburg. The match was held on 23 July 2016 at the Lokomotiv Stadium, in Moscow. Russian Super Cup
The Russian Super Cup () is a one-match football annual competition. Its official sponsored name is ''OLIMPBET Russian Supercup'' (). The two participating clubs are the Russian Premier League champions and the Russian Cup winners. If the Premier League and the Cup are won by the same team, then the other participant is the league runners-up. The match is played at the beginning of the season, typically in July. The trophy has been contested since 2003. Pontus Anders Mikael Wernbloom (; born 25 June 1986) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Ezequiel Marcelo Garay González (; born 10 October 1986) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a central defender. Luís Carlos Novo Neto (; born 26 May 1988) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Sporting CP. Sergio Carlos Strandberg (born 14 April 1996) is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Al-Sailiya.
