2016 Rome Municipal Election
Snap municipal elections were held in Rome on 5 and 19 June 2016, to elect the Mayor of Rome and 48 members of the City Council, as well as the fifteen presidents and more than 400 councillors of the 15 '' municipi'' in which the municipality is divided. The elections were called following the fall of the former Mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino, who was ousted from office after more than half of the members of the City Council resigned in October 2015. Percentage Point
A percentage point or percent point is the unit for the arithmetic difference between two percentages. For example, moving up from 40 percent to 44 percent is an increase of 4 percentage points, but a 10-percent increase in the quantity being measured. In literature, the unit is usually either written out, or abbreviated as ''pp'' or ''p.p.'' to avoid ambiguity. After the first occurrence, some writers abbreviate by using just "point" or "points". 2016 Turin Municipal Election
Municipal elections were held in Turin, northern Italy, in May 2016. Chiara Appendino, the candidate of the Five Star Movement, was elected after defeating former mayor Piero Fassino in the runoff. Voting system The voting system is used for all mayoral elections in Italy, in the city with a population higher than 15,000 inhabitants. Under this system voters express a direct choice for the mayor or an indirect choice voting for the party of the candidate's coalition. If no candidate receives 50% of votes, the top two candidates go to a second round after two weeks. This gives a result whereby the winning candidate may be able to claim majority support, although it is not guaranteed. The election of the City Council is based on a direct choice for the candidate with a preference vote: the candidate with the majority of the preferences is elected. Possible (Italy)
Possible ( it, Possibile, Pos) is a left-wing political party in Italy, launched in Rome on 21 June 2015. The party's leader is Giuseppe Civati, a former prominent member of the Democratic Party (PD). Possible's progressive platform is a mixture of social democracy, democratic socialism, green politics, liberalism and elements of participatory democracy. Possible's logo, including an equals sign, refers to a fundamental issue for the party, equality, inflected in multiple fields such as the economy, conflict of interest, separation of powers, anti-sexism, LGBTI+ rights, and immigration. Communist Refoundation Party
The Communist Refoundation Party ( it, Partito della Rifondazione Comunista, PRC) is a communist political party in Italy that emerged from a split of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) in 1991. The party's secretary is Maurizio Acerbo, who replaced Paolo Ferrero in 2017. Armando Cossutta was the party's founder, while Fausto Bertinotti its longest-serving leader (1994–2008). The latter transformed the PRC from a traditional communist party into a collection of radical social movements. Direct election is a system of choosing political officeholders in which the voters directly cast ballots for the persons or political party that they desire to see elected. ''Panorama'' is a weekly Italian-language news magazine published in Italy and based in Milan. History and overview ''Panorama'' was founded in Milan in 1939. Roberto Morassut (born 16 November 1963) is an Italian politician. Biography Morassut graduated in Literature in 1987 with a contemporary history thesis on the administration of Rome from 1947 to 1952. Since the years of high school he became a member of the Italian Communist Party and then of the Democratic Party of the Left.
