2016 Paris–Roubaix
The 2016 Paris–Roubaix was a one-day classic cycling race that took place on 10 April 2016 in northern France. It was the 114th edition of the Paris–Roubaix and was the tenth race of the 2016 UCI World Tour and the third monument of the season. The race took place over . The principal difficulty was provided by the 27 sectors of cobbled roads, which cover a total distance of . The difficult conditions caused by the cobbles have earned the race the name "the Hell of the North". It came at the end of the cobbled classics season, a week after the 2016 Tour of Flanders; the favourites included the winner of that race, Peter Sagan (), as well as Fabian Cancellara () and Tom Boonen (). 2016 UCI World Tour
The 2016 UCI World Tour was a competition that included 27 road cycling events throughout the 2016 men's cycling season. It was the eighth edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The competition started with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 19 January, and concluded with Il Lombardia on 1 October. Spain's Alejandro Valverde was the two-times defending champion. Valverde was unable to defend his title, as he finished fourth in the individual rankings. The title was won for the first time by Slovakian rider Peter Sagan for the team, scoring 669 points over the course of the season. This included victories at Gent–Wevelgem, the Tour of Flanders and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. The Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) is part of the French media group Éditions Philippe Amaury. It organises the Tour de France and other cycling races, as well as golf, running, sailing and off-road motorsport events. Roubaix Velodrome
The Roubaix Velodrome (officially Vélodrome André-Pétrieux) is a velodrome in Roubaix, Nord, France. It was opened in 1936 and has hosted the finish of the one-day " monument classic" cycling race Paris–Roubaix since 1943. The race moved to the current stadium in 1943, and there it has stayed with the exceptions of 1986, 1987 and 1988 when the finish was in the avenue des Nations-Unies, outside the offices of La Redoute, the mail-order company which sponsored the race. The shower room inside the velodrome is distinctive for the open, three-sided, low-walled concrete stalls, each with a brass plaque to commemorate a winner. Carrefour De L'Arbre
Carrefour de l'Arbre, officially Pavé de Luchin, is a 2.1 km cobbled road in the municipalities of Camphin-en-Pévèle, Baisieux-Sin and Gruson, in the Nord department of Northern France. The location was the setting of the Battle of Bouvines, which ended the Anglo-French War in 1214. Today, the road is best known from the cycling classic Paris–Roubaix, where it has often proved decisive due to its proximity to Roubaix and cumulative difficulty. The Trouée d'Arenberg or Tranchée de Wallers-Arenberg (English: ''Trench of Arenberg'') is a 2.3 km long cobbled road in the municipality of Wallers in Northern France, in the Département Nord. The road's official name is ''La Drève des Boules d'Hérin'' ''("Bullet Alley of Hérin")'' and crosses the ''Forêt de Raismes-Saint-Amand-Wallers'', outside France better known as the Forest of Arenberg. It is best known from the annual cycling classic Paris–Roubaix held in April, where it is one of the most difficult passages of the race. Characteristics Officially, the 2,300 meters of cobbles were laid in the time of Napoleon I, in the late 18th century, crossing the large forest of Saint-Amand-Wallers, close to Wallers and just west of Valenciennes.
