The women's 100 metres at the 2016 IPC Athletics European Championships was held at the Stadio Olimpico Carlo Zecchini in Grosseto from 11–16 June. Bronze medals were not awarded in the T34, T53 and T54 due to only three competitors being present in each race. 100 Metres
The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983. The reigning 100 m Olympic or world champion is often named "the fastest man or woman in the world". Fred Kerley and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are the reigning world champions; Marcell Jacobs and Elaine Thompson-Herah are the men's and women's Olympic champions. On an outdoor 400-metre running track, the 100 m is held on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. T34 (classification)
T34 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics. The classification is one of eight specifically for athletes with cerebral palsy, and one of four for athletes with cerebral palsy who use a wheelchair. People in this class have hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis. This class includes people who have cerebral palsy, or who have had a stroke or traumatic brain injury. Sophie Megan Hahn, (born 23 January 1997) is a parasport athlete from England competing mainly in T38 sprint events. T38 (classification)
T38 and CP8 are disability sport classification for disability athletics intended for people with cerebral palsy. It includes people who have coordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis. Runners in this class may appear to have a slight limp when they are running but otherwise have a stride similar to able-bodied runners. Events for this class include 100 meters, 400 meters, 1,500 meters, and the long jump. Sport This classification is for disability athletics. Georgina Hermitage, (born 28 March 1989) is a former British parasport athlete competing in T37 sprint events. In 2015, she qualified for the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, selected for the T37 100m and 200m. She took the gold in the 400m sprint, setting a new world record. Personal history Hermitage was born in Guildford, England in 1989. She has cerebral palsy which mainly affects the left side of her body. She was educated at George Abbot School in her home town. It is the athletics equivalent of the more general CP7 classification. Definition This classification is for disability athletics in track and jump events. Maria Lyle
Maria Lyle (born 14 February 2000) is a parasport athlete from Scotland competing mainly in T35 sprint events. At the age of 14 she set a world record in the 200m sprint, a record she has broken on several occasions. In 2014, she qualified for the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea and won gold in both the 100m and 200m T35. Personal history Lyle was born in Dunbar, Scotland, in 2000 to Raymond and Susan Lyle. She has one younger sister. She has spastic dipelgic cerebral palsy, attributed to her mother contracting shingles while pregnant with her. Lyle is a former pupil of Dunbar Grammar School, having also attended Oaklands College in Hertfordshire, graduating from the elite Oaklands Wolves Sports Academy in 2017.
