2016 FFA Cup Final
The 2016 FFA Cup Final was the 3rd final of the premier association football knockout cup competition in Australia. The match was held on 30 November 2016 at AAMI Park. Melbourne Victory were the defending champions, but were defeated 2–0 by Melbourne City in the semi-finals. The other team to qualify for the Final was Sydney FC, who defeated Canberra Olympic 3–0 in their respective semi-final. The Final was the first to feature either Melbourne City or Sydney FC. Melbourne City won the match 1–0, Tim Cahill scoring the only goal via a header. As of October 2022, it remains the largest attended FFA Cup final in the tournaments history, despite the match being played on a Wednesday evening, with a crowd of 18,751. Melbourne Rectangular Stadium
The Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, known as AAMI Park for sponsorship reasons, is an outdoor sports stadium on the site of Edwin Flack Field in the Sports and Entertainment Precinct in the Melbourne central business district. When completed in 2010, it was Melbourne's first large purpose-built rectangular stadium. When the project to build the new stadium was approved, the largest stadiums in use were the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Docklands Stadium. 2015 A-League Grand Final
The 2015 A-League Grand Final was the tenth A-League Grand Final, and was played on 17 May 2015, at AAMI Park to determine the 2014–15 A-League Champion. The match was contested by the two winning semi-finalists and Big Blue rivals, Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC, who finished the 2014–15 A-League season in first and second position respectively. The match was won by Melbourne Victory, who defeated Sydney FC 3–0 in front of a sold-out crowd. The win saw Melbourne Victory become the most successful A-League club of its first decade, with three A-League Premierships and three A-League Championships. Dorrien Gardens is a sports ground in West Perth, Western Australia primarily used for soccer. It is the home ground of Perth SC. Wollongong Showground, known as WIN Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Wollongong, Australia. The stadium was officially opened in 1911. From 1982 until 1998 it played host to every home match for the Illawarra Steelers NRL team, and is still the team's home ground in the lower grade competitions. It is now used as one home ground of the St George Illawarra Dragons rugby league side and Wollongong Wolves of the National Premier Leagues NSW. The Melbourne Derby is an intra-city local derby in Australia's premier soccer competition, the A-League Men. It is contested between the first two Melbourne teams playing in the competition, Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory, and is the A-League Men's first intra-city derby.
