2016 European Ladies' Team Championship
The 2016 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 5–9 July at Oddur Golf Club in Garðabær, Iceland. It was the 33rd women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue Oddur Golf Club was established in 1990 with a nine-hole course designed by Hannes Thorsteinsson, located in the municipality of Garðabær, 6 kilometres south of the city center of Reykjavik, Iceland. It was extended to the Urriðavöllur 18-hole-course in 1997, a heathland course flanked by lava from the dormant volcano Búrfell. The championship course was set up with par 72. Format All participating teams played two qualification rounds of stroke-play with six players, counted the five best scores for each team. Garðabær
Garðabær () is a municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland. History Garðabær is a growing town in the Capital Region. It is the sixth largest town in Iceland with a population of 13,872 (Sept 1, 2013). The site of Garðabær has been inhabited since Iceland was first settled in the 9th century. Landnámabók, the Book of Settlement, tells of two farms on the site of Garðabær: Vífilsstaðir and Skúlastaðir. Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In stroke play, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Fátima Fernández Cano (born 23 October 1995) is a Spanish professional golfer and member of the LPGA Tour. Early life, amateur and college career Cano was born in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. As a junior player, Cano won the Galicia Championships in 2005. She played college golf at Troy University between 2013 and 2017. While at Troy, she was the Sun Belt Conference individual champion her freshman year. Celia Barquín Arozamena
Celia Barquín Arozamena (6 July 1996 – 17 September 2018) was a Spanish amateur golfer. She won the 2018 European Ladies Amateur Championship. Career Barquín was born in Puente San Miguel and educated in Torrelavega and then in Madrid. She spent two years in a residential training programme run by the Spanish Sports Council before moving to the United States, where she was a member of the Iowa State Cyclones women's golf team from 2014 to 2018 and was the Iowa State University Female Athlete of the Year for 2018. She played for Spain at the 2015 and 2016 European Ladies' Team Championship, where the team finished third and second respectively. Laura Fünfstück (born 21 December 1994) is a German professional golfer who plays on the Ladies European Tour. She won the 2018 South African Women's Masters and was runner-up at the 2023 La Sella Open in Spain. Amateur career Fünfstück started playing golf at the age of three when her parents bought her first set of plastic clubs. Esther Henseleit (born 14 January 1999) is a German professional golfer and member of the Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour. Amateur career Henseleit attended Freie Waldorfschule Oldenburg and played for Golfclub am Meer before switching to Hamburg Golf Club in 2013. She joined the German national team in 2014 and finished third at the 2016 International Amateur Championship. Leonie Harm (born 1997) is a German professional golfer who plays on the Houston Cougars golf team since 2015. In 2018, Harm was the first golfer from Germany to win the British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship in the event's history. Matilda Maria Castren (born 18 January 1995) is a Finnish professional golfer playing on the LPGA Tour. In 2021 she won the LPGA Mediheal Championship to become the first player from Finland to win on the LPGA Tour. Line Toft Hansen (born 31 July 1999) is a Danish professional golfer and member of the Ladies European Tour. Early life and amateur career Hansen started playing golf in 2007, taught by her grandfather. Puk Lyng Thomsen (born 15 April 1998) is a Danish professional golfer. As an amateur she won the 2017 French Ladies Amateur and finished second individually in the 2016 Espirito Santo Trophy. Malene Krølbøll Hansen (born 1995) is a Danish professional golfer who plays on the Symetra Tour. Amateur career Krølbøll played for the National Team and represented Denmark in two European Girls' Team Championships and six European Ladies' Team Championships between 2011 and 2018, with best result a bronze medal in 2012.
