2016 Eisenhower Trophy
The 2016 Eisenhower Trophy took place 21–24 September at the Mayakoba El Camaleón Golf Club and the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club on the Riviera Maya, south of Cancun, Mexico. It was the 30th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy and the second to be held in Mexico. Format The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 72 three-man teams. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. Each team played two rounds on the two courses. The leading teams played at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club on the third day and at the Mayakoba El Camaleón Golf Club on the final day. Winners Australia won their third Eisenhower Trophy, 19 strokes ahead of England, who took the silver medal. Austria and Ireland tied for third place and received bronze medals. Matthias Schwab (born 9 December 1994) is an Austrian professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. Amateur career Schwab had a successful amateur career. He reached the final of the 2012 Amateur Championship, losing to Alan Dunbar by 1 hole. He attended Vanderbilt University from 2013 to 2017. Alfie Plant
Alfie Charles Plant (born 6 July 1992) is an English professional golfer. He came to prominence by winning the Silver Medal, as the leading amateur, at the 2017 Open Championship. Amateur career Plant was runner-up at the 2015 English Amateur at Alwoodley Golf Club, Leeds losing 9&7 to Joe Dean in the 36 hole final. Plant played for England in the 2016 Eisenhower Trophy were the team finished second, their best ever finish in the event. Scott Samuel Gregory (born 1 October 1994) is an English professional golfer. He won the 2016 Amateur Championship at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, beating Robert MacIntyre 2&1 in the final, becoming the first Hampshire-born player to win the Championship.
