2016 African Archery Championships
The 2016 African Archery Championships was the 11th edition of the African Archery Championships. The event was held in Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia from 28 January to 31 January 2016. The men's and women's individual recurve tournaments also served as continental qualifying tournaments for the 2016 Summer Olympics. 3 individual qualifying spots for each gender were available. Windhoek
Windhoek (, , ) is the capital and largest city of Namibia. It is located in central Namibia in the Khomas Highland plateau area, at around above sea level, almost exactly at the country's geographical centre. The population of Windhoek in 2020 was 431,000 which is growing continually due to an influx from all over Namibia. Windhoek is the social, economic, political, and cultural centre of the country. Nearly every Namibian national enterprise, governmental body, educational and cultural institution is headquartered there. The city developed at the site of a permanent hot spring known to the indigenous pastoral communities. It developed rapidly after Jonker Afrikaner, Captain of the Orlam, settled there in 1840 and built a stone church for his community. Areneo David is a Malawian competitive archer. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, David etched a historic mark for Malawi as the first ever archer to compete in an Olympic tournament, shooting only in the men's individual recurve through a tripartite invitation. ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib ( ar, عَلِيّ بْن أَبِي طَالِب; 600 – 661 CE) was the last of four Rightly Guided Caliphs to rule Islam (r. 656 – 661) immediately after the death of Muhammad, and he was the first Shia Imam.
