2015 Hockey India League
The 2015 Hockey India League (known as the Hero Hockey India League for sponsorship reasons), abbreviated as HIL 2015, was the third season of the professional field hockey tournament, Hockey India League. The tournament began on 22 January 2015 with the final on 22 February 2015. Ranchi Rays and Dabang Mumbai debuted in this season. The prize money for this edition was announced to be 2.5 Crores INR. Ranchi Rays emerged the champions of the season after beating Punjab Warriors in the final. Hockey India plans, directs and conducts all the activities for both men and women hockey in India. It is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India as the sole body responsible towards promoting Hockey in India. It was formed after Indian Hockey Federation was dismissed in 2008 by IOA. Headquartered in New Delhi, Hockey India was established on 20 May 2009 and is affiliated to the International Hockey Federation (FIH), the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Asian Hockey Federation (AHF). The Uttar Pradesh Wizards (abbreviated as UPW) are a field hockey team based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh that plays in the Hockey India League. It is owned by Sahara India Pariwar. Former Dutch coach Roelant Oltmans serves as coach for the team and former Indian captain Dhanraj Pillay acts as the technical director of the team. Franchisee Details Ownership The team is owned by Sahara Adventure Sports Limited, a group company of Sahara India, bought the franchise on 23 July 2012. Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium or Ranchi Hockey Stadium is a field hockey stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. It serves as the home ground for Hockey India League franchise Ranchi Rays. It is located in Morabadi near Ranchi and has a capacity of approximately 5000. This was also the home ground of Hockey India League team Ranchi Rhinos. Initially built in 1990 then subsequently renovated. It is believed to be the newest and best stadium in India. It was inaugurated by then Governor of Jharkhand K Sankaranarayanan as a prelude to the 34th National Games scheduled to be organized in Jharkhand from 21 November 2009.
