2015 Haitian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Haiti on 25 October 2015, alongside local elections and the second round of the legislative elections. Incumbent President Michel Martelly was constitutionally barred from running. As no candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, a runoff was to be held on 27 December 2015. On 22 December the Conseil Electoral Provisoire (CEP) announced that the runoff has been postponed indefinitely. However, on 1 January 2016 President Michel Martelly announced that the runoff would be held on 17 January, but on 7 January the President changed the date to 24 January. On 20 January, Jude Célestin issued a statement that calls "whatever the person who will participate in this January 24 unoff is a traitor to the Nation". Jocelerme Privert (; born 1 February 1953) is a Haitian accountant and bureaucrat who served as the interim President of Haiti from 2016 to 2017. Political career Early political career A longtime politician, he first served as the economics and finance minister under Jean-Bertrand Aristide during 2001 and 2002. The Christian Movement for a New Haiti (''Mouvement Chrétien pour une Nouvelle Haïti'', Mochrenha) is a political party in Haiti. History The party was founded in 1991 by Evangelical Protestant churches. The Struggling People's Organization (french: Organisation du peuple en lutte, ht, Òganizasyon Pèp k ap Lite), called until 1996 Lavalas Political Organization (french: Organisation Politique Lavalas, OPL), is a Haitian political party originating from the Lavalas political movement. Jean Henry Céant (born 27 September 1956) is a Haitian politician who was the twenty-first Prime Minister of Haiti. He was sanctioned by the Canadian Government for his involvement in human rights violations and supporting criminal gangs on 17 November 2022. Prime Minister Céant was chosen by President Jovenel Moïse to become Prime Minister of Haiti in August 2018. He was chosen to succeed Jack Guy Lafontant, who had resigned due to an economic crisis.
