2015 American Ultimate Disc League Season
The 2015 American Ultimate Disc League season was the fourth season for the league. Each team played a 14-game schedule. The San Jose Spiders won the AUDL Championship over the Madison Radicals at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California. The Spiders won the championship despite entering the final four with the lowest seed after a regular-season finish of 10-4. Montreal Royal
The Montreal Matrix were an American Basketball Association team based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The team's first season was in 2005–06 and their home court was the Centre Pierre Charbonneau. The team was known as the Montreal Royal during the 2007–08 season, before returning to its original name. History The Matrix reached the playoffs in their first season of play. They won their first playoff game against the Ohio Aviators. They reached the Round of 16 before losing to the Maryland Nighthawks. In their 2007–08 season as the Montreal Royal, the team reached the Final 8 in Quebec City, before losing to the Manchester Millrats in overtime. The team is now defunct. The team was founded in 2015 and folded after the 2018 season. History Breaking gender barriers The Raleigh Flyers made news in 2015 by signing the first ever female professional ultimate player, Jessi Jones, to play in their game against the Nashville NightWatch as part of "Women's Ultimate Day". The NightWatch went a step further in 2017 by rostering Jesse Shofner from the beginning of the season. Atlanta Hustle
The Atlanta Hustle is a professional ultimate frisbee franchise based out of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. They compete as one of 25 teams in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL), playing in the league's South Division. 2015 season The Hustle finished the season 10-4 and tied for second in the division with the Jacksonville Cannons, both behind the Raleigh Flyers. The Cannons possessed a head-to-head tie breaker with the Hustle and thereby advanced to play the Flyers in the first round of the divisional playoffs on July 25, 2015. Jacksonville Cannons
The Tampa Bay Cannons (formerly the Jacksonville Cannons) were a professional ultimate team in the South Division of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Cannons were active from 2015 to 2022. History Bill Kilgannon purchased American Ultimate Disc League franchise rights for Jacksonville, Florida in 2012; the team, called the Cannons, debuted in the 2015 season and made the playoffs in its inaugural season. The team drew from many former college during its inaugural season, including those from the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Central Florida. After the team's 2017 season, ownership decided to relocate to Tampa, citing better community interest for games. It was later revealed that Kilgannon had sold the team to the AUDL, and that the league planned the move to Orlando. Raleigh Flyers (AUDL)
The Carolina Flyers, formerly the Raleigh Flyers, are a professional ultimate team from Durham, North Carolina playing in the South Division of the American Ultimate Disc League. The team was founded in 2015. From 2015 through 2018, the Flyers played most of their home games at Crusader Stadium on the campus of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, with some home games at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. In 2019, the team has played home games at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, and other venues. After the 2020 AUDL season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team moved their home games to Durham County Stadium beginning in 2021. In 2021, the Flyers won the national title. History When the American Ultimate Disc League showed interest in expanding to the West Coast, three local club Ultiamte players explored club interest in the San Diego area and eventually bought the franchise territory rights to the area, beginning the history of the Growlers. The AUDL officially announced the Growlers as an expansion team in October 2014, noting that the team's name has a dual meaning as a reference to both the animal and the craft beer scene.
