2014 Texas Rangers Season
The 2014 Texas Rangers (baseball), Texas Rangers season was the Rangers' 54th season of the franchise and the 43rd since the team relocated to Arlington, Texas. The Rangers suffered from injuries throughout the season and spent a substantial part of the season in last place in the American League (AL), at one point having a streak of 8–34. Manager Ron Washington resigned on September 5, 2014, citing personal issues. Despite finishing the season with a 13–3 stretch, The Rangers were unable to escape the AL cellar, but did manage to finish 67–95 and third worst in Major League Baseball (MLB), ahead of the 2014 Colorado Rockies season, Colorado Rockies and 2014 Arizona Diamondbacks season, Arizona Diamondbacks of the National League (NL). American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. From 1998 (when the NL West expanded to five teams) to 2012, the AL West was the only MLB division with four teams. The current champion of this division is the Houston Astros. The American League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known simply as the American League (AL), is one of two leagues that make up Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada. It developed from the Western League, a minor league based in the Great Lakes states, which eventually aspired to major league status. It is sometimes called the Junior Circuit because it claimed Major League status for the 1901 season, 25 years after the formation of the National League (the "Senior Circuit"). Jacob Todd Odorizzi (born March 27, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves. 2014 Tampa Bay Rays Season
The Tampa Bay Rays 2014 season was the Rays' 17th season of Major League Baseball and the seventh as the "Rays" (all at Tropicana Field). The team finished at 77-85, their first losing season as the Rays. Jonathan Robert Papelbon (; born November 23, 1980) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher. He played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), most notably for the Boston Red Sox, with whom he was an All-Star in four consecutive seasons (2006–2009), won the 2007 Delivery Man of the Year Award, and was a 2007 World Series champion. Seth Daniel Rosin (born November 2, 1988) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher who played for the Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies in 2014 and 2015. Mario Eduardo Lemus Hollands (born August 26, 1988) is an American former professional baseball left-handed relief pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies in . Hollands played college baseball for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, where he earned a degree in sociology. Joakim Agustín Soria Ramos (born May 18, 1984) is a Mexican former professional baseball pitcher. Pedro José Figueroa Vizcaíno (born November 23, 1985) is a Dominican former professional baseball pitcher. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers.
