2014 UCI Europe Tour
The 2014 UCI Europe Tour was the tenth season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2014 season began on 2 February 2014 with the Grand Prix d'Ouverture La Marseillaise, Grand Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise and ended on 19 October 2014 with the Chrono des Nations. The points leader, based on the cumulative results of previous races, wears the UCI Europe Tour cycling jersey. Riccardo Zoidl of Austria was the defending champion of the 2013 UCI Europe Tour. The 2014 Europe Tour was won by Tom Van Asbroeck. Throughout the season, points are awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. Davide Appollonio (born 2 June 1989) is an Italian professional road bicycle racer, who most recently rode for UCI Continental team . Career Born in Isernia, Appollonio first made an impression in the professional ranks riding as a ''stagiaire'' for during the latter part of 2009, before signing for the team as a neo-pro for the 2010 season. He joined for the 2011 season, picking up his first win for the team on the 3rd stage of the Tour de Luxembourg, and then his first overall Sprints competition the following day. The 2013 Roma Maxima was the 75th edition of the Italian Classic cycle races, semi-classic Road bicycle racing, cycle race previously known as Giro del Lazio. The ''Giro del Lazio'' has not been raced since 2008, and the 2013 edition was the first one with the new name. The race was scheduled on 3 March 2013; it started on ''Via Appia Antica'' in Rome, passed through the cobblestone section of the ancient Appian Way and the steep climbs of the Roman hills, and ended again in Rome in ''Via dei Fori Imperiali'', near the Coliseum, after . Classic Cycle Races
The classic cycle races are the most prestigious one-day professional road cycling races in the international calendar. Some of these events date back to the 19th century. They are normally held at roughly the same time each year. The five most revered races are often described as the cycling monuments. For the 2005 to 2007 seasons, some classics formed part of the UCI ProTour run by the Union Cycliste Internationale. This event series also included various stage races including the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España, Paris–Nice, and the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré. The UCI ProTour replaced the UCI Road World Cup series (1989–2004) which contained only one-day races.
