2014 Progressive Conservative Party Of Newfoundland And Labrador Leadership Election
The 2014 Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election was prompted by Kathy Dunderdale's announcement on January 22, 2014, that she was resigning as premier and party leader. On January 24, 2014, Tom Marshall was sworn in as the 11th Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and interim leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. Prior to the nomination deadline, three accredited candidates entered the race; Frank Coleman, Bill Barry, and Wayne Bennett. On April 3, Bennett was removed from the race while on April 17, Barry voluntarily withdrew his nomination, resulting in Frank Coleman becoming leader-designate. Coleman was to officially become office leader on July 5, and subsequently premier, however, he never took either office after abruptly announcing on June 16, 2014 that he was leaving politics due to an unspecified "significant and challenging family matter." Derrick Dalley
Derrick Dalley , (born July 22, 1965) is a former Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He served as the Minister of Natural Resources in the provincial cabinet. Dalley has represented the district of The Isles of Notre Dame in the House of Assembly from 2007 until 2015. Before entering politics he worked as a guidance counselor and principal. Early life Dalley was born in Twillingate, Notre Dame Bay. He spent his early years in Springdale before returning to Twillingate, where he completed high school. Dalley went on to attend Memorial University of Newfoundland where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in political science, and a Bachelor of Education degree in 1987. Port de Grave is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Fishing was a prime industry in the district and many people commute to work in the St. John's area. Bay Roberts was an important service centre for the region and there is some light industrial activity. In 2011, there were 8,914 eligible voters living within the district. Vaughn Granter (born September 14, 1965) is a politician in Newfoundland and Labrador who currently serves as a City Councillor in Corner Brook. Granter previously served as the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture in the Davis government. He was elected to serve in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly on February 15, 2011 and re-elected in the 2011 general election.
