2014 Perth Darts Masters
The 2014 Perth Darts Masters was the inaugural staging of a tournament by the Professional Darts Corporation, as a third entry in the 2014 World Series of Darts. The tournament featured 16 players and was held at the HBF Stadium in Perth, Western Australia from 22–24 August 2014. Phil Taylor won the title by defeating Michael van Gerwen 11–9 in the final. Prize money The total prize fund was £73,000. HBF Stadium
Perth Superdrome, known as HBF Stadium under a commercial naming rights arrangement, is a sports complex in Perth, Western Australia. It is home to the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS). The venue is located in the suburb of Mount Claremont, approximately west of Perth's central business district. The complex was opened in 1986. It received its current name through a naming-rights sponsorship deal with the HBF Health Fund in 2014. Although the previous sponsorship with Challenge Bank expired in 2002, the Challenge Stadium name remained in use until 2014. Facilities include an Olympic-standard aquatic centre with five pools, a diving tower, gymnasium, two arenas, and several basketball courts, as well as a café, childcare centre, sports store, office accommodation and a museum. Paul Nicholson (darts Player)
Paul Michael Nicholson (born 10 May 1979) is an English former professional darts player who played in events of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He won a major event, the 2010 Players Championship Finals, where he defeated Mervyn King in the final. He was also the runner-up to Phil Taylor in the 2011 Championship League Darts, and part of the Australia team which lost a sudden death shoot-out to England in the 2012 PDC World Cup of Darts final. Nicholson also acts as a sports commentator and TV and radio pundit. He was nicknamed "The Asset", and was known for coming on to the stage with sunglasses, and was also known for his Wrestling-style walk ons, using the song "Club Foot" as his walk on music for most of his career. World Series Of Darts
The World Series of Darts is a series of darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. Beginning in 2013, the World Series has comprised between two and seven tournaments across the world, where a mixture of the top-ranked PDC players take on local qualifiers in a knockout format. Since 2015, there has been a finals tournament held annually in November at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, although in 2018, it moved to the Multiversum Schwechat in Vienna, Austria, and moved again to the AFAS Live in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2019, then to the Salzburgarena, Salzburg in 2020. David Platt (darts Player)
David Platt (born 22 April 1967) is an English-born Australian professional darts player who competed plays in events of the World Darts Federation (WDF). Career Platt competed at the 2003 PDC World Darts Championship, where he was defeated in the first round by Steve Brown of the United States. He returned to the World Championship in 2006, again losing in the first round to defending champion Phil Taylor. Platt emigrated from England to Perth in Western Australia in the middle of 2009, and began competing in Darts Players Australia (DPA) events the following year. Shane Tichowitsch
Shane Tichowitsch (born 9 January 1967) is a former professional Australian darts player. Career He qualified for the 2011 PDC World Darts Championship. He is a semi-professional darts player and has been as high as 93 in the world. He qualified for the 2011 PDC World Darts Championship, however he was defeated 1–3 by Andy Smith in the last 64 of the competition. In 2012, Tichowitsch won four successive events on the DartPlayers Australia tour, later finishing top of the Order of Merit and therefore returned to the World Championship in its 2013 edition. He lost to Dave Chisnall 0–3 in the first round, but his performance did not reflect the scoreline, with Chisnall admitting Tichowitsch deserved more out of the game. Laurence Ryder
Laurence "Loz" Ryder (born 28 December 1966) is an Australian former darts player who competed in British Darts Organisation (BDO) events. Career Ryder was born in Britain but in 2001 moved from Derby to Western Australia. In 2013 he won the Dosh Perth Open by beating Conan Ugle 6–3 in the final. Ryder played the full circuit of Australian Grand Prix events for the first time in 2014 and won five events as well as being the runner-up in five others to top the rankings. As a result, he qualified for the Perth Darts Masters and Sydney Darts Masters, losing in the opening rounds to Raymond van Barneveld and Peter Wright respectively. Warren Parry
Warren "Wazza" Parry (born 9 January 1964) is a New Zealand professional darts player who played in the World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Parry is widely considered the greatest New Zealand player of all time. Career Parry reached the final of the 1999 WDF World Cup Men's Singles event, beating Marko Kantele in the last 16, Andy Fordham in the quarter-finals and fellow New Zealander Herbie Nathan in the semis before losing to Raymond van Barneveld 4–1. Parry then went on to win the 2000 WDF Asia-Pacific Cup. Despite losing his opening group game to Australia's Tony David, Parry won his next two group games to secure qualification for the knockout stage. Beau Anderson
Beau Anderson (born 25 December 1982) is an Australian former professional darts player who played within the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) from 2013 to 2017. Personal life Beau's brother was the late Kyle Anderson who was also a Darts player. Beau and Kyle had a close relationship and regularly cheered each other on in tournaments from the crowd. Beau was present for what was arguably the pinnacle of his brother's career when he hit a 9 Darter in a World Championship match against Ian White in December 2013 at Alexandra Palace.
