2014 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships
The 2014 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships were held from November 8 to 15 at the Karuizawa Ice Park in Karuizawa, Japan. The top two finishers in the men's tournament, Japan and China, earned berths to the 2015 Ford World Men's Curling Championship in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, while the top finisher in the women's tournament, China, will join hosts Japan at the 2015 World Women's Curling Championship in Sapporo, Japan. Karuizawa
is a resort town located in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. , the town had an estimated population of 20,323 in 9897 households, and a population density of 130 persons per km². The total area of the town is . Karuizawa is one of the oldest and most famous summer resorts in Japan, visited by many people from different countries since the 19th century. Geography Karuizawa is located in eastern Nagano Prefecture, bordered by Gunma Prefecture to the north, east and south. The town is located on an elevated plain at the foot of Mount Asama, one of Japan's most active volcanoes. The mountain is classed as a Category A active volcano. The 2015 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as Ford World Men's Curling Championship 2015 for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 28 to April 5 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It marked the first time that a World Curling Championship had been held in Halifax, and the first time that a World Curling Championship event had been held in the province since the World Junior Curling Championships were held in Dartmouth in 1986. Dean Hewitt
Dean Hewitt (born 9 November 1994) is an Australian curler from Melbourne. At the 2021 Olympic Curling Qualification Event in December 2021 Hewitt and his teammate Tahli Gill made history, when they won qualification to the mixed doubles tournament at the 2022 Winter Olympics. They are the first ever Australian curling team (in any curling discipline) to qualify for the Winter Olympics. Personal life Hewitt is from a curling family. Jay Merchant
Jay Merchant (born 16 May 1982) is an Australian curler and curling coach originally from Canada. Personal life Merchant was born and grew up in Coronation, Alberta, Canada. His father, Archie curled in national oilman's competitions and his mom and older brother curled as well. After highschool, Merchant attended the University of Lethbridge where he studied for a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He spent the majority of his time working in oil and gas as a labourer and then became an executive with M&N Construction in between his studies. He was a member of then Member of Parliament Rick Casson's steering committee and curled out of the Lethbridge Curling Club. He played juniors in Alberta and made it to provincials a number of times. Ian "Ice Nut" Palangio (21 November 1972 – 2020) was a Canadian–Australian curler. He represented Australia at four World Curling Championships and was a two-time Pacific Curling Champion. World Curling Federation
The World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990. The ICF was initially formed in 1966 as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth after the success of the Scotch Cup series of world championships held between Canada and Scotland. At the outset, it comprised the associations of Scotland, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States. In the wake of its formation, it sanctioned the World Curling Championships.
