The 2014 North Carolina Senate elections selected members to serve in the North Carolina Senate for a two-year term commencing in January 2015. North Carolina State Senate
The North Carolina Senate is the upper chamber of the North Carolina General Assembly, which along with the North Carolina House of Representatives—the lower chamber—comprises the state legislature of North Carolina. The term of office for each senator is only two years. The Senate's prerogatives and powers are similar to those of the other house, the House of Representatives. Its members do, however, represent districts that are larger than those of their colleagues in the House. The President of the Senate is the Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, but the Lt. Governor has very limited powers and only votes to break a tie. Before the office of Lt. Governor was created in 1868, the Senate was presided over by a "Speaker." Donald Gene Davis (born August 29, 1971) is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for North Carolina's 1st congressional district since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented the 5th district in the North Carolina Senate from 2013 to 2023. Bryant (born December 9, 1951) is an American Democratic Party (United States), Democratic politician who currently serves as a member of the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission (a full-time position).
