Nipissing District
Nipissing District is a district in Northeastern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was created in 1858. The district seat is North Bay. In 2016, the population was 83,150. The land area is ; the population density was , making it one of the most densely populated districts in northern Ontario. History The Sudbury District was created in 1894 from townships of eastern Algoma District and west Nipissing District. 2014 Ontario Municipal Elections
The 2014 municipal elections in Ontario were held on October 27, 2014. Voters in the province of Ontario elected mayors, councillors, school board trustees and all other elected officials in all of the List of municipalities in Ontario, province's municipalities. Electoral period Submissions for candidate nominations were first accepted on 1 January 2014, at which time the campaign period began. The last day for acceptance of nominations or candidacy withdrawal was 12 September 2014. From 1978 until 2006 the second Monday of November was the fixed date. Notwithstanding advance polling arrangements, municipal elections will be held on the fourth Monday of October, that is 27 October 2014. Bonfield, Ontario
Bonfield is a township in northeastern Ontario, Canada, on the Mattawa River in Nipissing District. The township comprises the communities of Blanchard's Landing, Bonfield, Grand Desert, and Rutherglen. The community of Bonfield is connected to Ontario Highway 17 by Ontario Highway 531, while Rutherglen is located directly on the route of Highway 17 and the other communities are located on local roads within the township. Named after James Bonfield (1825-1900), one-time M.P.P for South Renfrew in the Ontario legislature. Town and neighbouring township were amalgamated on January 1, 1975. Chisholm (Canada 2016 Census population 1,291) is a township in Northeastern Ontario, Canada, located in the Nipissing District. Maps show the township as comprising the communities of Alderdale, Booth's Landing, Chiswick, Fossmill, Grahamvale and Wasing, however, these communities are now little more than slightly denser areas of housing, or completely abandoned in the case of Fossmill. The township administrative offices are located in Chiswick. Alderdale, Fossmill, Grahamvale, and Wasing were all once stops or milepoints along the Canadian National Railway Alderdale Subdivision. East Ferris
East Ferris is a township in northeastern Ontario, Canada located between Trout Lake and Lake Nosbonsing in the District of Nipissing. West Ferris has long been annexed into the city of North Bay. Communities The main communities within East Ferris are Astorville and Corbeil. There are also smaller residential areas in the township, known as Derland Road and Lake Nosbonsing. Astorville and Derland were formerly stops along the Canadian National Railway Alderdale Subdivision. Rail service declined in the mid-20th century and was eliminated altogether in 1996. In July 2005, Astorville hosted the first Northern Ontario Ball Hockey Championship. Mattawa, Ontario
Mattawa is a town in northeastern Ontario, Canada on Algonquin Nation land at the confluence of the Mattawa and Ottawa Rivers in Nipissing District. Mattawa means "Meeting of the Waters" in the Algonquin language. The first Europeans to pass through this area were Étienne Brûlé and Samuel de Champlain. Mattawan is a municipality in the Canadian province of Ontario. Located in the Nipissing District, the municipality had a population of 161 in the Canada 2016 Census. The municipality has no named communities within its boundaries; all addresses within the municipality are rural routes assigned to the neighbouring town of Mattawa. Its main access road is Highway 533, with Highway 656 as a short branch leading to the Otto Holden Generating Station on the Ottawa River. North Bay, Ontario
North Bay is a city in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is the seat of Nipissing District, and takes its name from its position on the shore of Lake Nipissing. North Bay developed as a railroad centre, and its airport was an important military location during the Cold War. History The site of North Bay is part of a historic canoe route where Samuel de Champlain took a party up the Ottawa River, through present-day Mattawa, on to Trout Lake and via the La Vase Creek to Lake Nipissing. Apart from Indigenous people, voyageurs and surveyors, there was little activity in the Lake Nipissing area until the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1882. That was the point where the Canada Central Railway (CCR) extension ended. Al McDonald
Al McDonald is a politician in Ontario, Canada, who was mayor of North Bay, Ontario from 2010 to 2022. He was previously a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2002 to 2003, and ran unsuccessfully for the Conservative Party of Canada in the 2004 federal election.
