2014 Newry, Mourne And Down District Council Election
The first election to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, part of the Northern Ireland local elections on 22 May 2014, returned 41 members to the newly formed council via Single Transferable Vote. Sinn Féin and the Social Democratic and Labour Party won the most seats, with 14 each, with Sinn Féin taking a plurality of first-preference votes. The 2019 election to the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, part of the Northern Ireland local elections that were held on 2 May 2019 returned 41 members to the council via Single Transferable Vote. Sinn Féin
Sinn Féin ( , ; en, " eOurselves") is an Irish republican and democratic socialist political party active throughout both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The original Sinn Féin organisation was founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith. Its members founded the revolutionary Irish Republic and its parliament, the First Dáil, during the Irish War of Independence. The party split in the aftermath of the Irish Civil War, giving rise to the two traditionally dominant parties of southern Irish politics: Fianna Fáil, and Cumann na nGaedheal (which became Fine Gael). For several decades the remaining Sinn Féin organisation was small without parliamentary representation. Paddy Brown is a Northern Irish politician who is an Alliance Party Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). He was elected as an MLA in the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election for South Down. Early life Brown grew up in Crossgar and Downpatrick where he attended integrated schools, including Shimna Integrated College. Brown went to University of Sheffield, where he received his bachelor's degree and master's degrees in political science and international development respectively. Harry Harvey (politician)
Harry Harvey is a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Harvey has been a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for Strangford since 2019. Born in Crossgar, Northern Ireland, Harvey is the son of politician Cecil Harvey. Davy Hyland (born 25 February 1955, Belfast) is an Irish former politician who was a Sinn Fein Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for Newry and Armagh from 2003 to 2007. Colin McGrath MLA (born 21 October 1975) is an Irish Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) politician from Northern Ireland. He has been a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for South Down since the 2016 election. Background McGrath was born in the town of Downpatrick, County Down on 21 October 1975. He attended St Patrick's Primary School Saul, St Patrick's Grammar School and the East Down Institute (now part of South Eastern Regional College). Following his completion of secondary education, McGrath attended the University of Ulster Jordanstown and graduated in 1998 in Community Youth Work.
