2014 Nebraska Elections
A general election was held in the U.S. state of Nebraska on November 4, 2014. All of Nebraska's executive officers were up for election as well as a United States Senate seat, and all of Nebraska's three seats in the United States House of Representatives. Primary elections were held on May 13, 2014, for offices that require them. Governor and lieutenant governor Incumbent Republican Governor Dave Heineman is term-limited and could not run for re-election to a third term. Republicans Jon Bruning, Tom Carlson, Mike Foley, Beau McCoy, Pete Ricketts and Bryan Slone; Democrat Chuck Hassebrook and Libertarian Mark G. Elworth, Jr. ran. Doug Peterson (Nebraska Politician)
Doug Peterson (born April 4, 1959) is an American lawyer and politician who was the 33rd attorney general of Nebraska. A Republican, Peterson was elected attorney general during the 2014 election and assumed office in January 2015. Biography Peterson, who was born in Columbus, Nebraska, was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1981 and earned a Juris Doctor from the Pepperdine University School of Law in 1985. Peterson worked for the district attorney of Lincoln County for two years until serving an additional two years as an assistant Nebraska attorney general to Robert Spire from 1988 until 1990. He entered private practice, where he would remain until his 2014 election as Attorney General of Nebraska. Peterson was sworn in as the 32nd attorney general of Nebraska at the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln on January 8, 2015. 2004 United States House Of Representatives Elections
The 2004 United States House of Representatives elections were held on November 2, 2004 to elect all 435 seats of the chamber. It coincided with the reelection of President George W. Bush as well as many Senate elections and gubernatorial elections. In the 108th Congress, Republicans held 227 seats, Democrats held 205, with two Republican vacancies and one independent. As a result of this election, the 109th Congress began composed of 232 Republicans, 201 Democrats, one independent (who caucuses with the Democrats), and one vacancy (Democrat Bob Matsui won reelection, but died just two days before the beginning of the 109th Congress.). Nebraska's 1st Congressional District
Nebraska's 1st congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Nebraska that encompasses most of its eastern quarter, except for Omaha and some of its suburbs, which are part of the 2nd congressional district. It includes the state capital Lincoln, as well as the cities of Bellevue, Fremont, and Norfolk. Following the 2010 United States Census, the 1st congressional district was changed to include an eastern section of Sarpy County; Dakota County was moved to the 3rd congressional district. Under the lines of redistricting following the 2010 census, The Cook Partisan Voting Index (CPVI) for the 1st congressional district was R+11. Greeks In Omaha, Nebraska
The community of Greeks in Omaha, Nebraska, has a history that extends back to the 1880s. After they originally moved to the city following work with the railroads, the community quickly grew and founded a substantial neighborhood in South Omaha that was colloquially referred to as "Greek Town." The community was replete with Greek bakers, barbers, grocers and cafes. After a 1909 mob attack on the community, Greek immigrants fled from Omaha. Today even though the Greek-American community is smaller than it was in 1909, it includes many prominent doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, business people and others who have achieved great success here. Peter Allen "Pete" Pirsch (born October 28, 1969) is a politician from the state of Nebraska in the Midwestern United States. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother, Carol McBride Pirsch, was a member of the Nebraska Legislature, representing the 10th district from 1979 to 1997. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia (BA in government), the University of Nebraska College of Law (JD), and the University of Nebraska at Omaha (MBA). Lincoln County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 census, the population was 34,676. Its county seat is North Platte.
