2014 International Rules Series
The 2014 International Rules Series (officially the 2014 Virgin Australia International Rules Test) was contested between Gaelic footballers from Ireland and Australian footballers from Australia. The 18th series of international rules football since the concept's inception in 1984, Ireland entered as defending champions, with Australia seeking their first series win since 2010. The match was played at Perth's Patersons Stadium on Saturday 22 November. Unlike previous years, the series was reduced to a single one-off test match, which Australia won 56-46 to record their first series win in four years and the Cormac McAnallen Cup. The win also levelled the overall series wins between the two sides at 9-9. Selection eligibility was again altered for the Australian team, with only players previously selected in an All-Australian team eligible to represent Australia. International Rules Series
The International Rules Series is a senior men's international rules football competition between the Australia international rules football team (selected by the Australian Football League) and the Ireland international rules football team (selected by the Gaelic Athletic Association). The series is played biannually over two Test matches in November after the completion of the AFL Grand Final and the All-Ireland Football Final, which are both traditionally played in late September, and the winner is the team with the highest cumulative score over both Tests; however, there have been six unscheduled years since 2009. The matches are played using a set of compromise rules decided upon by both the two governing bodies; the game is known formally as international rules football. Sydney Olympic Park is a suburb of Greater Western Sydney, located 13 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Parramatta Council. It is commonly known as Olympic Park but officially named Sydney Olympic Park. The area was part of the suburb of Lidcombe and known as "North Lidcombe", but between 1989 and 2009 was named " Homebush Bay" (part of which is now the separate suburb of Wentworth Point). Trevor Barker Beach Oval
Trevor Barker Beach Oval, currently known under naming rights as the Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval, is an Australian rules football ground in Beach Road, on the border between Hampton and Sandringham, Victoria. Most commonly known as Beach Road Oval throughout its existence, in 1998 the ground was renamed after the late Trevor Barker, who died of cancer in 1996 at the age of 39. Barker had coached the Sandringham Football Club to the 1992 and 1994 premierships. In the late 1920s, the Sandringham council had been seeking to establish a senior football club in the district to join the Victorian Football Association, and providing a fenced venue to which admission could be charged was a requirement of the Association. After a previous unsuccessful application, the council received permission from the State Government to fence the existing playing oval in February 1929; the Sandringham Football Club entered the VFA the same season. Victorian Football League
The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). It includes teams from clubs based in the eastern states of Australia: Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and includes reserves teams for the east coast AFL clubs. The league evolved from the former Victorian Football Association (VFA), and it has been known by its current name since 1996. All-Australian Team
The All-Australian team is an all-star team of Australian rules football in Australia, Australian rules footballers, selected by a panel at the end of each season. It represents a complete team, including an interchange bench, of the best-performed players during the season, led by that season's premiership coach. Despite its nature, the All-Australian team is only ceremonial. Cormac McAnallen
Cormac McAnallen ( ga, Cormac Mac An Ailín; 11 February 1980 – 2 March 2004) was an Irish people, Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Eglish St Patrick's GAC, Eglish St Patrick's club and the Tyrone county football team, Tyrone county team. With Tyrone, McAnallen won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 2003, 2003, and twice won both the Ulster Senior Football Championship and National Football League (Ireland), National League titles. At underage level he won an All-Ireland Minor Football Championship, All-Ireland Minor and two All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship, All-Ireland Under-21 Championships with Tyrone. He also won an List of All Stars Awards winners (football), All Stars Award for his performances in the 2003 Championship. 2010 International Rules Series
The 2010 International Rules Series (officially the 2010 Irish Daily Mail International Rules Series) was the 15th International Rules Series, contested between Gaelic football players from Ireland and Australian rules football players from Australia. The Series was won by Australia, winning the first test by seven points and the second test by three, thereby winning with an aggregate score of 102 to 92. This was the first time Australia have won the Cormac McAnallen Cup since 2006. Dane Swan was awarded the Jim Stynes Medal, for being Australia best player over the Series, while Colm Begley won the equivalent award for Ireland. The second test in Croke Park on 30 October marked the end of the broadcasting career of commentator Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh who commentated on his last live match on RTÉ Radio.
