2014 Indiana Hoosiers Baseball Team
The 2014 Indiana Hoosiers baseball team is a college baseball team that represented Indiana University in the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Hoosiers are members of the Big Ten Conference (B1G) and played their home games at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Indiana. They were led by ninth-year head coach Tracy Smith. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Hoosiers were selected to play in the 2014 NCAA tournament, they would host the Bloomington Regional for the second consecutive year. Indiana would win the first two games to advance to the regional final where they would meet the Stanford Cardinal, the Hoosiers would lose back to back games and be eliminated from the Bloomington Regional by Stanford by a score of 4–5 in the final game. Tracy Smith (baseball)
Tracy Smith (born February 14, 1966) is an American baseball coach and former player, who is the current head baseball coach of the Michigan Wolverines. He played college baseball at Miami (OH) from 1985 to 1988 for head coach Jon Pavlisko, before pursuing a professional career from 1988 to 1990. He then served as the head coach of the Miami RedHawks (1997–2005), the Indiana Hoosiers (2006–2014) and the Arizona State Sun Devils (2015–2021). Smith was the head coach of Indiana from 2006 to 2014, during which time the Hoosiers appeared in three NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the College World Series once. As the head coach of Miami (OH) from 1997–2005, Smith led the RedHawks to two NCAA Tournaments. Playing career Smith played for South Newton High School. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field). Sam Travis
Samuel John Travis (born August 27, 1993) is an American professional baseball first baseman for the Olmecas de Tabasco of the Mexican League. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox. Listed at and , he bats and throws right-handed. Travis made his MLB debut in May 2017. An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Kyle Schwarber
Kyle Joseph Schwarber (born March 5, 1993) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball for the Indiana Hoosiers and was a first-round selection in the 2014 MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs. Aaron Allan Slegers (born September 4, 1992) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played college baseball at Indiana University Bloomington for the Indiana Hoosiers and in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Minnesota Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, and Los Angeles Angels.
