The 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series was the 19th season of the IndyCar Series and the 103rd season of American open wheel racing. Its premier event was the 98th Indianapolis 500, held on Sunday, May 25. Scott Dixon entered the season as the defending IndyCar Champion, while Chevrolet entered as the reigning Manufacturers' champion. The 2014 season featured eleven different winners, tying a record previously set in 2000 and 2001. Heading into the final race of the season, Will Power led Hélio Castroneves by 51 points. Carlos Huertas
Carlos Huertas (born 22 June 1991) is a Colombian racing driver. Racing career Born in Bogotá, Huertas began his career in Formula BMW UK in 2007 with Räikkönen Robertson Racing where he finished 13th. He finished fifth in the World Final race. In 2008 he returned to Räikkönen Robertson but moved to the FBMW Europe series. He finished ninth in the championship. In 2009 he moved to the British Formula 3 Championship with Räikkönen Robertson and finished seventh in points with two podium finishes. He also finished 12th in the Macau Grand Prix. He returned to British F3 and Räikkönen Robertson in 2010 but dropped to 10th in points, but recorded four podium finishes. In 2011 he remained for a third year in British F3 but switched teams to Carlin Motorsport. Simon Pagenaud
Simon Pagenaud (born 18 May 1984) is a French professional racing driver. He is contracted to drive the No. 60 Honda for Meyer Shank Racing in the IndyCar Series. After a successful career in sports car racing that saw him taking the top class championship title in the 2010 American Le Mans Series, he moved to the Indycar Series where he became the 2016 IndyCar champion and the 2019 Indianapolis 500 winner, becoming the first French driver to win the Indianapolis 500 since Gaston Chevrolet in 1920 and the first polesitter to have won the race since Helio Castroneves in 2009. It was held in a street circuit located in downtown Houston for four years, then returned after a four-year hiatus for two years on a course laid out in the parking lot of the NRG Park, Reliant/NRG Park complex. The 2014 Pocono IndyCar 500 was the twenty-first running of the event, and was an IndyCar Series race held on July 6, 2014, at the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. The race was the eleventh in the 2014 IndyCar Series season. Juan Pablo Montoya won the pole and later went on to win the race, which was the fastest 500 mile automobile race of any kind in history. Summary Juan Pablo Montoya secured the pole position with a 2-lap average speed of 223.871mph. There were 16 lead changes among 5 drivers. There was only one caution period for 6 laps when Graham Rahal spun and made wall contact in turn 1 on lap 158. Report The starting scene of race 1 was a crash involving James Hinchcliffe and Ed Carpenter after Hinchcliffe's car suffered stall. The first race was won by Scott Dixon, who finished second to Team Penske driver Will Power in the second race. The second race was also notable for an accident on the final lap involving Dario Franchitti, E. J. Viso, and Takuma Sato. Franchitti suffered major injuries in the crash, and was forced to retire from racing due to the severity of the injuries he sustained.
