2014 FINA Women's Water Polo World League
The 2014 FINA Women's Water Polo World League is played between November 2013 and June 2014 and open to all women's water polo national teams. After participating in a preliminary round, eight teams qualify to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final in Kunshan, China from 10–15 June 2014. In the World League, there are specific rules that do not allow matches to end in a draw. If teams are level at the end of the 4th quarter of any world league match, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout. Teams earn points in the standings in group matches as follows: * Match won in normal time - 3 points * Match won in shootout - 2 points * Match lost in shootout - 1 point * Match lost in normal time - 0 points Preliminary round Europe The European preliminary round consisted of two group of three teams. FINA Water Polo World League
The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which plays annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the "Super Final") where the league champion team is crowned. Men's league play began in 2002, to capitalize on increased worldwide popularity of water polo created by the 2000 Olympic Games, especially in Europe, North America and Australia. The women’s league was added in 2004, based on growing interest in women's play. In October 2022, FINA announced that the tournament would be replaced with the FINA Water Polo World Cup and FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup from 2023 on. Kiley Neushul
Kiley Susan Neushul (born March 5, 1993) is an American water polo player and a graduate of Stanford University. Neushul was selected as one of 13 players who represented the USA and won a Gold Medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was also a part of the gold medal-winning American team at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships, the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, and the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.. Early life Neushul grew up in Isla Vista, California with her parents Peter and Cathy and two younger sisters Jamie and Ryann. All three sisters played water polo growing up and her mother Cathy is now the technical director for Santa Barbara 805. Makenzie Fischer
Makenzie Fischer (born March 29, 1997) is an American water polo player. She was part of the gold medal-winning American team at the Water polo at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships – Women's tournament, 2015 World Aquatics Championships, where she played in the centre back position. She was also part of the gold medal-winning American team at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Personal life Fischer's younger sister, Aria Fischer, is also on the American Women's National Team for Water Polo. Their father, Erich Fischer, competed on the American men's national team for water polo. Margaret Ann Steffens (born June 4, 1993) is an American water polo player. She won the gold medal with the United States at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Steffens set a new Olympic record for the most number of goals scored by an individual player in women's water polo at the Olympic Games. Early career Steffens played water polo at Monte Vista High School and helped the team win their league championship in 2007, 2008, and 2009. She then attended UCLA, where she majored in history and played water polo; she graduated in 2017.
